PM Browne Urges National Unity Against Crime Amid Rising Threats
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called for national unity in the face of escalating crime and violence in Antigua and Barbuda, emphasizing that crime knows no boundaries and affects everyone, regardless of political affiliation or background. In a radio interview, Browne underscored the importance of setting aside differences and biases to confront the growing security challenges facing the nation.
“Whenever we have any national security challenges, the country must put aside all differences and biases because you’re talking about an issue that will affect all of us,” Browne stated. He highlighted the stark reality that crime is not confined to any particular group and stressed that a united front is crucial in overcoming the threat of violence.
Referencing recent events in Jamaica, where gunmen targeted and shot 17 people in Clarendon, Browne warned against the possibility of such severe gun crime levels emerging in Antigua and Barbuda. He expressed concern over the increasing brazenness of criminals, including juveniles, who have become more audacious in their actions. Browne revealed that threats had been directed at him and other members of the government, as well as society at large, with alarming messages circulating on social media.
Despite these threats, Browne remained resolute, asserting that such intimidation would not succeed in instilling fear in him or the citizens of the country. “Little punky boys can’t go put no fear in my heart,” he declared, urging the public to stand up to criminals and refuse to be cowed by their actions.
Browne also emphasized the importance of self-defense, revealing that he takes precautions to protect himself but clarified that his focus remains on ensuring the safety and security of the nation. He called on the public to fulfill their responsibility in resisting criminal elements, describing many of these individuals as “cowards” who seek easy and quick money.
In addressing the root causes of crime, Browne noted that the current situation in Antigua and Barbuda does not stem from a lack of opportunities or high unemployment, as might have been the case in the past. He urged those involved in criminal activities to consider the alternatives and recognize that there are better paths available.
Prime Minister Browne’s remarks come at a time of heightened concern over crime in the country, as the government and citizens alike seek effective solutions to maintain peace and security. His call for unity and collective action resonates as a crucial step in ensuring that Antigua and Barbuda does not succumb to the growing menace of crime and violence.

These kids in school who are gang members need to put down look at the 15 yr old what they did to her,dnt focus on crime in Jamaica focus on the young upcoming criminals you all have in school no body is safe
look st the 20 yr old who jus got out a prison an went an committee crime an shoot at the police focus on that something need to be done here
young youths listening to gun an violence songs from Jamaica has nothing to do with it those songs been around long before I was even born so I suggest focus on Antigua not jamaica they can fight there own battle
So what is he saying I should also do the same? And everyone else,so does that solve the problem?
If the country wasn’t sold out to the devil all these demonic activities would not be taken place
So what the regular man suppose to do when you guys not giving gun license huh?
He walks around with a gun in his pocket? As Prime Minister of a country, I do support this. But other highly qualified folks should have the same. It is time.
I have been for my full license since my temporary permit expired.
So does this mean that the Commissioner will now be more lenient and issue firearm license to business owners who are in the same position of being threatened like the Prime Minister who was not shy in telling people he protects himself? Even the firearm owners are afraid to use their weapons because it comes with a hell of a lot of backlash if you kill someone while protecting yourself. Things like you cannot shoot a man if he’s already running away from you. So I guess he should run off to potentially hurt someone else. Sigh. Dammed if we do and dammed if we don’t
The Prime Minister has surrounded himself with many sycophantic and incompetent persons at the head of many major government institutions. He loves it when they sing his tunes on pointeFM and declare that he is the best and smartest. But their performance in the offices that he assigned to them is very poor, unprofessional and totally unproductive. The average citizen doesn’t have a gun to carry with them to protect themselves, so we must suffer under the useful idiots and the brazen incompetence of gaston brown and his incompetent sycophants.
Hmmmmmm
Y’all not posting the comments. Censorship to protect an incompetent Prime Minister
So the PM is walking around with his gun what about the rest of us that is doing denied a license?
The lazy punks will will try to convince the PM that they are jot punks. Thanks to the PM for motivating the criminally minded.
Mr PM very clever of you to inform the public that you have a weapon in your pocket. A weapon in your pocket means you have six or seven rounds. Hope you have a clip or two in your pocket. A responsible fire arm holder should never disclose that information publicly. You also open yourself to get disarmed, no?
Lester never used to walk with no gun.
Why did the headline hv to be highlighted that the man has guns in his pocket? He is the Prime Minister, so what???
We must focus on our community on a whole as a ppl being affected by what is happening. Doesn’t licensed firearm holders walk around with them in their pockets? So what’s the big deal???
Let us focus as a community! What is happening is done by ppl making radical moves to prove a point. The country isn’t so poor that they hv to resort to the level of crimes we seeing or even the type. The doers of these crimes are influenced by music n peers who dear them to prove a point, group related or planned/organized crimes all of which regular, ordinary rich or poor ppl can do.
Focus less on Gaston and ABLP n let us focus on nation as a whole as we are all part of it. U see something, suspect something Say something. Alot of us fall in the trap of “Me nar talk, me nuh able.” But this is what helps to breed crimes continually. Gaston alone cannot do it nor does the ABLP. There were crimes under the UPP governance to. So should we blame them to??? Is only the government change not the citizens. So think deep n let us stop all this loose chatter n boring finger pointing. Cas when u point 4 fingers r pointing back at u… when they do, ask urself what can I do to help curb this issue….
The headline reads:
“THIS LAND FORMER LAND OF PARADISE, WITH CRIME OUT OF CONTROL ON THE BEAUTIFUL ISLAND OF ANTIGUA, EVEN THE PRIME MINISTER HAS TO PACK HEAT.”
Doesn’t the Prime Minister have a security detail?
If not who are the guys walking around with him?
He brings them with him and they are positioned at the edge of the seating area when he visits Nobu on Barbuda for his weekly lunch.
It seems to me that the PM himself is afraid so hex tries to phsy out the bad men by saying he carries a gun.
Keep you hands off our land and pay attention to out of control criminals.
Keep these low lives off of Barbuda otherwise “we bun them up deep in one a de caves”
If the Government can’t keep a community safe then vigilante Justice is what the community will have to resort to.
Aubrey tell your men to stop having a blinds eye down at Jolly Harbour where even school children know that’s the entry point for illegal arms and drugs.
The headline.
PARADISE LOST. Even the Prime Minister of Antigua by his own admission has to carry a gun.
The public are at the mercy of the gangs. The authorities has no solution.
The Prime Minister says he expects The Minister of Public Safety needs to come up with something to address this problem.
The Chief of Police says we are working on a solution with the parents of the gang members. Mothers are packing up their kids and sending them to America. While the gangs are indoctrinating those who remain.
In the mean time mths Antigua Bar Association many of whose members are incompetent, makes their only fees representing criminals; and enjoy the status quo.
Keep your hands off Barbuda lands Gaston. And the criminals off of Barbuda otherwise it’s going to be gang warfare.
Giving the crime situation in the country I don’t think he should go shopping alone and with his daughter. He needs to beef up his security. Baldwin Spencer and Lester Bird always had security surrounding them. And Baldwin never drove himself.
As a law abiding citizen I too should be given the right to bear arm to protect my family, home and my business….
chups!! dem na shat a soul, puff up like dem heart cold, but a bait dem big p*ssyhole!!
why does your sons need guns and always showing it off? Lester or Baldwin didn’t need no gun and he wasn’t a greedy bastard like you..your police force, government, port and judiciary tink a shit cleam um up.
Pm Browne when you walk around with a gun you don’t make it known. There is something called the element of suprise; and you don’t carry it in your pocket either it’s difficult to get it out of pocket when you need to use it.
Is this the first Prime Minister to walk around with a gun in his pocket?
From leaving your the doors and windows of your home open to walking around with a gun in your pocket, is that a part of the growth the PM always bragging about?
Walk round with gun inna pocket….real soon you ah go need gun inna hand, cause them youth man faster than you. Them no hab no arthritis inna them hand. 🤔🤔🤔
Only PM can get gun. The rest of us can’t. Welcome to dictatorship.
You voted this POS in, now you can live with it.
