ABS- Former Director of Public Prosecutions, Anthony Armstrong, says he is not representing Angela Mejia, the woman charged with the murder of 9-year-old Chantel Crump.
Though a lawyer in court on Wednesday morning said Armstrong would lead the defence, Armstrong tells ABS News he has never met or spoken with Mejia. He confirms being approached and asked to represent her, but says he has neither been retained, or instructed by her.
The clarification comes after today’s committal hearing for Mejia, who prosecutors allege killed Chantel March 12 in Glanvilles.
The case is still in its preliminary phase as the court decides whether it will go to trial.

Armstrong stepping away might be for the best.
Armstrong is not saying he will not represent her… He is simply saying that he has not yet been retained or instructed by the accused person.
At the end of the day, all accused persons are entitled to legal representation and a fair trial.
So we need to respect the process.
Armstrong fo not be too quick to distance yourself from the accused.
This is easy money.
Jump at the opportunity.
You may never have to represent her any further than the commital process.
Is Armstrong still legit in the legal circles following his own alleged entanglement in criminal conduct back in his homeland, Jamaica. How come he did not face disbarrment? Why is he back in Antigua when we have already appointed a DPP. Why Antigua? I felt personally insulted when he, while still in office as DPP here in Antigua, was accused and subsequently arrested for embezzlement. Whether he was found not guilty or pardoned why was he allowed Bach on Antigua as practicing lawyer????? Mr AG, can you explain this to a simpleton like me? Are we that short in supply of lawyers that any old accused alleged criminal can get safe haven in this country? Being paid with taxpayers’ money????

May I remind you that Antigua AG Cutie Benjamin did not dismiss Anthony Armstrong when he was accused of embezzlement. Rather he allowed Armstrong to go on leave.
Even after interpol was chasing down Armstrong our AG Steadroy Benjamin was willing to keep him in his employment.
A tangled web when Anthony Armstrong did not prosecute Cutie Benjamin the lawyer who signed off falsely as knowing individuals who he did not know. One bring a drug dealer wanted in the UK
One hand washes the other when it comes to CID prosecutors, the AG and the DDP in Antigua and Barbuda.
Our new DDP has made statements about his independence and not being influenced. The manner in which he was selected and announced speaks volumes.
