Lower Newgate Street was abuzz with activity in the capital Wednesday morning as employees of the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) congregated outside the headquarters of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) as their shop stewards were locked in negotiations with union officials regarding a proposed 3% pay increase.

Good on them!
3% pay rise, ah wha dat? When inflation and the high cost of living in Tigua is virtually triple that!
The union should push for at least 7 or 8%.
I know many people will keep saying that the country can’t afford this, but if the ABLP can easily afford their SELF-ENRICHMENT schemes (remember some of our ABLP cabinet ministers have over 100 million dollars portfolios), then these small percentage rises are nothing in comparison.
FROM A PROUD ANTIGUAN BUSINESSMAN WHO CONTINUES TO PAYS FAIR WAGES FOR DECENT WORK …
Nothing wrong with agitating for an increase inflation is out of wack out here. Went to look some fish yesterday in Parham, unscaled the man said $15.00 per pound. My issue is why have meeting and have the company resources park up at the union headquarters. Why not park the company vehicles and jump in your own and have meetings all day.
