The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) is warning residents that a disconnection notice circulating on social media and messaging platforms is fake and should not be trusted.
In a statement issued on 14 March, the utility company said the notice claims that specific communities in St. John’s will face service disconnections. However, APUA stressed that the message is malicious and was not issued by the authority.
The company explained that while it recently released its routine monthly reminder to customers whose accounts are more than 30 days overdue, the official notice did not identify or target any particular communities.
According to APUA, the areas mentioned in the circulating message are not part of any disconnection listing released by the authority.
The utility provider strongly condemned the creation and sharing of false notices, warning that such misinformation could cause unnecessary concern among customers.
APUA urged individuals responsible for producing and distributing the misleading message to stop immediately.
Customers and members of the public are being advised to rely only on APUA’s official communication channels for accurate information, including the authority’s website, verified social media accounts and its official WhatsApp channel.
The company added that it remains committed to transparent communication with the public and thanked customers for their continued cooperation.
