Antigua Public Utility Authority (APUA) workers today walked off the job in protest to management’s failure to pay the salary increases they claim are owed to them.
After walking off the job earlier on Thursday morning, the all men team of utility workers walked to the offices of their bargaining agent the Antigua Barbuda Workers Union.
The employees want the final 2.5 per cent paid to them on their three-year contract. They were to receive increases of 2 per cent, 2.5 per cent and 2.5 per cent in year one, two and three respectively.
Instead of getting their final increase this year, the management has reportedly told staff that the increase has been placed in a thrift fund for the workers.
According to reports, APUA is of the view that the agreement has been misinterpreted. It is said that only a 4.5 per cent increase and a 2 per cent contribution to the fund was agreed.
It is not clear what decision was taken by the workers in the end.

APUA, necessary for life..but bad for business!
The reason you guys cant get any money number 1 every time u guys open a new branch instead of building a building you rent a building, inet which they say is locally owned but who they paying rent too…..a branch is over in gaston Browne place and one is still in cassada gardens …..Robin still want more money and he 80 greed is real musa a ga teck to spend in heaven
These people are lying and in some cases playing politics- They (at least the Union) agreed to the introduction of the contributory thrift fund.. APUA management, although i do have some issues with them is not insane to just come up with that scenario of putting 2.5 in a fund..It doesn’t work like that..Chester needs to stop playing politics with the workers and the workers need to use their commonsense,if they have any..
Isn’t Chester running for leadership of the UPP at the next convention? He has to flex his muscle to prove that he is a strong leader (unlike Lovell).
Corrupt Labour Party- You are sounding soo bad minded..Robin cant take his money to heaven, but your enviousness will surely take you to hell..
Truth to matter. They do have a skyscrapper on HighStreet. Do they own that ?, if they do why not have it like a mall with every Utility in there. Why rent all over the place and CLP is right who owns these rent buildings. this is madddddness.
ps. Money mek fuh spen
Not envious at all just seeing what is going i can guarantee that u probably work at apua ,transport board or from robin constituency or work with him because no other antiguan would say such shit….u ever heard of the carib arena tapes listen to them it is all about enriching of yourself for these people
Corrupt labour party- You need to get a mind check.. This is what’s keeping us down in these parts of the world.Where is the correlation between Carib Arena tapes,Bencorp building Robin Yearwood and the case at hand with APUA?..Where i work or do not work has nothing to do with me using a little commonsense, something i think you do not know how to use or maybe do not possess.. Your argument is irrelevant to the issue, therefore makes no valid contribution to the topic at hand…
All am saying keep singing for these enrichment moguls u will be the one suffering in the end i see antigua while u see red alp ….if i need commonsense to follow a party blindly then get that away from me this is one antiguan that will not be bought by these people we gave a job then turn around and qant ro give us a wendell gotfh with that shit
