Motorists in Antigua and Barbuda have long faced disruptions due to a lack of coordination between the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) and the Public Works Department when it comes to road repairs after APUA works on water pipes.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced that APUA will now set up its own road repair department. Despite previous attempts to address the issue, this new step is seen as the solution. “APUA will have its own patch crew,” he said.
“We’ve instructed them to invest in personnel who can operate the patching equipment. The policy going forward is simple: you dig the hole, you patch it.”
Meanwhile, road work continues in various areas across the island. Additional heavy-duty equipment has arrived to assist with repairs, and discussions are ongoing to train more operators, with current operators being encouraged to take on a training role.

BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT IN ROADWORKS IN THE LAST DECADE!!
I hope that they start to repair the roads soon.
I hope this leads to more efficient roadwork, but I’d also like to see a transparent timeline to hold them accountable for progress.
Have they gathered their crew already?
Instead APUA go and fix roads, why not fix the dams that are leaking water. It’s like Antigua always want to disown crumbling infrastructures to spend more money on new ones to be established. Use the same manpower to fix the old dams so more water can be stored, then go fix roads. Upgrade the electric grid system and focus on placing electric lines in every parish so when high winds occur people will have electricity. Instead of focusing on fixing roads try work on upgrading the internet system to make it work better. Antigua could be such a better place to live if the officials in charge focus on upgrading the infrastructure and not wait for someone to come do it for them.
I meant upgrading the electric grid to have lines placed underground so when high winds occur, we can still have power in our homes. Why not use the time to establish a solar power department to train employees how to install solar power so APUA can sell solar panels and do installations so they can preserve electricity in grid, there are so much APUA can focus on instead of talking about working on roads.
Make haste and fix the road in Belleview Estate that you guys dug up to install.pipe lines and left it a big mess. The road Is muddy and murky . Vehicles skidding and where there is assumably a fire hazard is a big pool of water whether it rains or not. We appreciate the lines for government water but gosh man we already didn’t have the best road but not its a whole mess. …fix it urgently please
Fire hydrant that it
Stand by for INCREASED utility prices to every Antiguan except MP’s & Cabinet = increased tax revenue to government.
‘ you dig the hole, you patch it’ = extra $$$
‘hire personnel ‘ = extra $$$
Meantime nary a word about Public Works years of incompetence.
