Parade Truck Damages Utility Pole, Causing Power Outage
St. John’s, Antigua – July 26, 2025 Antigua The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) wishes to inform the public that an incident occurred earlier this evening during the Carnival Parade, resulting in an unexpected power outage affecting parts of St. John’s.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a music truck participating in the parade came into contact with a telecommunications cable. The resulting tug placed considerable stress on a nearby utility pole, causing it to fracture and trigger an electrical fault. This led to a temporary disruption in electricity service in the surrounding area.
Due to high vehicular traffic in the city, APUA crews required an escort from the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda to access the affected location. Upon arrival, they immediately began working to isolate the impacted section of the network and restore electricity to customers as swiftly and safely as possible. Restoration efforts are ongoing.

Due to the complexity of the issue, further replacement of the pole will continue tomorrow, Sunday, July 27, 2025.
APUA strongly urges all drivers participating in parade routes to exercise caution around utility infrastructure. Additionally, riders on music and promotional trucks must remain extremely vigilant of energised overhead lines and take every precaution to avoid contact.
We regret any inconvenience caused and thank the public for their patience and understanding as we work to repair and fully restore services.

Smh who can’t hear will feel that power line gonna drop on ppl because nobody listen
Parades are meant to be fun, but incidents like this can quickly turn them into a headache for the community. Drivers of large vehicles need to be extra cautious.
Year after year these trucks are getting higher. They should not be reaching as high as they have them.
Tucks are getting higher of APUA lines be dropping lower?
Mek the sound box dem higher, drink the rum, smoke and fly.
Kill the men and rape the women and children.
This is how we are becoming, worse that Sodom. Jah will strike you evil people down in due time, this is total madness and it will come to an end some soon day. But for now, carry on, it’s your time, kill yourselves, a bigger judgement awaits you even after this death. God nah sleep
A simple question? Why can’t there be strictly enforced limits of the height of these trucks? They seem to get higher each year. Damn nonsense!
What was the threat? Was there a broken wire? Did a truck clip a live wire? After all these decades, why are we still hanging wires on poles?
Carnival personel should inspect each truck for height restriction before hitting the road. No speakers should be higher thank platform deck PERIOD. Safety first
