The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) Electricity Business Unit sincerely apologizes to customers served by the Five Islands #4 circuit for the extended outage experienced on Friday 28 February 2025.

Initially, maintenance work was expected to take approximately 90 minutes.

However, during the exercise, our technicians identified additional issues that could potentially cause future outages. To enhance service reliability, the team took immediate action to address these concerns.

Due to the specific location of the circuit, it could not be connected to an alternate power source, resulting in a prolonged outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The impacted areas included Union Road, Five Islands, Hatton, Grays Farm, Green Bay, Cooks Hill.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue working to provide safe and reliable electricity service.

  1. I honestly don’t want to hear apologies from APUA. Their sorry cannot fix my washing machine that won’t come on. Do you know how many appliances that have been destroyed? APUA keep your story for yourself. Mi nah want ummm

  2. APUA this monopoly has to go. We need a new company. If this was so then you won’t be taking us for granted this way.

  3. APUA is always having some sort of problem. its over bearing now. Taking water so very often people belongs are mashing up

  4. A notice prior to would have allowed persons to be more proactive instead of reactive.
It was a planned outage yet communication was lacking to advise residents of this. Whether it’s 30 minutes or 5 hours, residents should be advised prior to in order to secure their appliances, and make other plans for those working from home, doing classes from home.

  5. I accept your apology i guess. but remember you’re dealing with people who has apppliances. Y’all just turn off light how yall feel and turn it on and it keeps going on and off. Antigua has enough news media for yall to send out a warning. sometimes you washing and off goes the light. the water is no where to be found. some of us have automatic machines, these clothes has to stay there until gos knows when.

  6. Please remind me, but didn’t Gaston Browne remove a top APUA manager last year and put in place someone who he INSISTED would improve the running of the company?

Since this appointment, power outtages and the lack of running water to our homes have markedly got worse … hasn’t it?

Browne has been in office since 2014, and Antiguans are still suffering and waiting for improvements in the country.

Name me any other unsightly DISSIGHT, who has had 11 years of opportunities for improvement and has failed miserably – no, I can’t either!

The Bajans wouldn’t put up with this dereliction of duty, but we Antiguans do. Go figure …
