Update on Power Restoration Efforts and Load Shedding Measures in Barbuda
The Antigua Public Utilities Authority wishes to provide an update to customers in Barbuda regarding ongoing power restoration efforts.

Our mechanical technicians are still working on the generator that experienced a failure at the Barbuda Power Plant.
Despite steady progress, repairs are not yet complete and, unfortunately, load shedding will continue tonight.
The cycle will operate in four hour intervals to manage the limited generation capacity.
A temporary generator is currently en route to Barbuda, and installation will begin right away upon arrival to support the system until the affected generator is restored.
Additionally, APUA has procured a new generator for the Green Barbuda Solar Hybrid System, which is the main power plant on the island. Once integrated, this generator will restore full generation capacity at the facility and significantly improve the stability of the island’s power supply.
APUA understands that these outages have been difficult for customers and sincerely apologises for the inconvenience. Our team is focused on restoring service as soon as possible.

We solicit your patience and understanding as our teams work diligently to resolve this matter.

Somethings don’t add up.
The Green Barbuda Solar Hybrid System is 3 years old. Not to long ago when Trevor Walker was sitting at the dedication like a Chester Cat.
Was it a used generator installed to back up the Solar System to replace so soon.
What’s aren’t more Barbudans trained and paid similar wages as Antiguans APUA workers?
The new generation has been on its way for a month. What is the schedule arrival date; and what is the installation and commissioning schedule.
Rather apologies, and asking patience and understanding for inconvenience being caused us; provide incremental schedules and stick to the schedule.
As a community we would tgrir plan accordingly to meet the schedule for outages
Until the APUA gets an injection of change into it’s engineering culture like what happen in the 1970’s when PLM and George Walter administration did so when they created this statutory corporation called APUA. We will continue to just pay engineers or an electricity manager who is just job entitlement by political connections, our technicians and line workers are exposed to carilec and sometimes work abroad and realize the lacking of engineering techniques APUA doesn’t possess, the engineers seem to think their job is as a supervisor as one of the best former electricity manager Mr George Piggott use to say as he tried to push changes to the cultural attitude in APUA back in his days as electricity manager.
Barbuda has been in the same dilemma for time immemorial, and they created this window dressing illusion of green energy for Barbuda, I am not aware of the system they have is equipped with batteries, which I assume it must since the generator is not been used, the solar powered dependency is dynamic due to the change of weather, the ultimate aim of the APUA should be to have a marine subsea cable running to Barbuda, all them other islands like the Virgin island has marine cable powering the sister islands, down in the Bahamas and other places.
The cable I would recommend is a DC high voltage marine cable with fibre optic combination, this will require two converter substation on both end, but the cable will be durable and long lasting since it is not affected by capacitance and transients as the AC marine power cable. And also it takes less conductors to generate the three phases in contrast to the AC cable that would have to have all three conductor to give 3 phases, they would have been able to bring in jumby bay online for APUA service because I believe they are enjoying tax concessions to power their properties that could have gone into the treasury, barbuda will never have any better services until the government remove the present electricity manager and also remove the politicians office from APUA and allow a professional board to get proper engineering personnel for the job, within the APUA presently their are engineers who are subordinates to the electricity manager and is been stymied from outshining the electricity manager who has his agenda driven by political instructions, when you look at the wadadli power plant it is clear to see that the failure was willful to contract out power production, if a proper professional board is put in place and they select engineers base on experience and competency, the APUA would end up saving a lots of monies, APUA presently doesn’t have any standards so there is a wastage of materials that the corporation procure from dinosaur or colonial times that is not ergonomic or cost savings due to lack of engineering vision. The APUA presently has allowed the government to be placing some wind turbine at Viv Richards stadium in a non breezy area, they could have suggested one go to Barbuda to augment the power system over there, that’s when you have an electricity manager that functions by political instructions, their was a engineer that was in charge of green energy, but as soon as the government changed in 2014 the electricity manager removed him as he posed a threat to him, this individual father was the best and former electricity manager back in the days and so he is isolated purposefully so incompetence can maintain power sitting there vindictively giving instructions that is not congruent with APUA future advancement and growth, the rickety pole and line structure supplying power to the country need engineering assessment to move APUA into the modern era and aesthetic , when you go to las Vegas and you see how the overhead power line passes through the town aesthetically, it’s breath taking for a linesman or engineer to look at, and because of its aesthetic the public is oblivious to poles or lines existing there. some of our neighboring islands is way ahead of APUA, as I say that the politicians office need to be removed from the APUA facility and allow the board to have that the office and they create the vision for the company going forward , they should have what you call a generation engineer that is senior to the electricity manager, without the power generation their is no service or revenue for APUA, the electricity manager should concentrate on power quality and aesthetic. As a former linesman that had stepped out of Antigua to work in utility companies in the virgin islands and grasp the fundamentals of power system, I tried my best while at APUA, but was ostracized by the establishment, people in position don’t want any changes . This suffering of APUA customers will continue as long as the status quo is maintained, both Antigua and Barbuda.
Apologize for what??? Leave them in DARKNESS. They are BACKWARD and willfully IGNORANT anyway!
Always plenty of power outtages in Barbuda and All Saints Village. Two areas that don’t vote – in the main – for the ABLP administration. Hmmmmm 🤔
Does anyone else see a vindictive pattern here?
