April Off to a Wet Start in Antigua and Barbuda
Climatologist Dale Destion says the first week of April brought unusually high rainfall to Antigua and Barbuda, with 39.5 mm (1.56 in) recorded at V.C. Bird International Airport—marking the sixth-wettest start to April since 1960. This amount represents 60% of the month’s average, far surpassing the typical 10 mm expected in the first week.
Initial forecasts gave April only a 30% chance of above-normal rainfall, but the wet start may prompt a revision. Elsewhere in the country, rainfall ranged from 20 to 40 mm (0.79 to 1.57 in).
So far in 2025, rainfall has been above normal. From January to March, totals ranged from 152.4 to 228.6 mm (6.0 to 9.0 in), making it the third-wettest first quarter since 2008.
The climate outlook for the next six months remains uncertain, with no strong signal for below-, near-, or above-normal rainfall—likely due to expected ENSO-neutral conditions.
