Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the OAS, Sir Ronald Sanders, says President Donald Trump’s mass deportation initiative should come as no surprise, as it aligns with his pre-election pledges.
Over 100 Antiguan and Barbudan nationals have been identified for deportation, with the number expected to rise. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reports that 110 individuals from Antigua and Barbuda are on the deportation list, though names and details remain undisclosed.
Sanders clarified that only those who overstayed their visas would be targeted, emphasizing that Trump’s actions are not unique, as other countries, including those in the Caribbean, enforce similar immigration laws. He questioned what response CARICOM could offer when regional nations also deport overstayers.
Since taking office, Trump has aggressively promoted immigration crackdowns, leading to widespread protests across the U.S.
