SOURCE: CARIBBEAN LOOP NEWS- Antigua and Barbuda’s music industry luminaries gathered yesterday for the first-ever National Music Awards.
The evening showcased the breadth of musical talent across the nation, with awards spanning traditional and contemporary genres.
Claudette Peters emerged as a dominant force, securing both Soca Artist of the Year and Best Recording Artist of the Year.
The legendary C.U.B. Hells Gate Steel Orchestra claimed the coveted Steelband of the Year title, while Rashid Walker and Leston Jacobs earned top honors in the Gospel and Calypsonian categories, respectively.
In the technical categories, Malik Smith was recognized as Arranger of the Year, and Andrew Dorsette of Smilus received the Producer of the Year award.
Aubrey Samuel’s mastery of the steel pan earned him Pannist of the Year, while Jordan Thomas took home the Dancehall/Reggae Artist of the Year award.
The ceremony took special care to honor the foundations of Antigua and Barbuda’s musical heritage through several distinguished recognition awards. The pinnacle of the evening came with the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Awards to three iconic figures: Sir Mclean “King Short Shirt” Emmanuel, Paul “King Obstinate” Richards, and the legendary group Burning Flames, acknowledging their indelible impact on the nation’s musical landscape.
