Antigua’s National Labour Code Faces Overdue Revisions for Improved Standards

0

Antigua’s National Labour Code is poised for long-awaited amendments, with the National Labour Board actively reassessing the code’s provisions.

Labour Commissioner Eltonia Rojas emphasized the potential for substantial changes, contingent on government endorsement.

Division E of the code, pertaining to workspaces and industries like agriculture, is under scrutiny.

Rojas noted that, while Antigua and Barbuda maintains a relatively safe work environment, aligning international standards with enforceable laws remains a priority.

Local unions, including the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union and the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers, have called for comprehensive reviews to strengthen workers’ rights protections.
