Hilson “Flag Man” Joseph, a familiar figure draped in the red, blue, yellow, white and black of Antigua and Barbuda’s flag, marked his birthday on Saturday with an outpouring of tributes across the island.

Known for his boundless energy and patriotic displays at cricket matches, Carnival parades and community events, Joseph has become a walking emblem of national pride.

Social media was awash with birthday messages, as supporters shared photos and stories of his presence at cultural celebrations. One admirer summed it up: “Flag Man is Carnival. Flag Man is cricket. Flag Man is Antigua.”

True to form, Joseph is believed to have spent the day doing what he does best — waving the national flag with pride.
