At 10:57 AM, an Amerijet Boeing 767 carrying over 5,000 pounds of jet fuel made a safe emergency landing after encountering issues. Later, at 10:48 PM, an Air Canada Airbus A319 with 120 passengers landed safely after reporting mechanical problems and conducting a precautionary fuel dump.
Fire Chief and ACP Vivian Parker commended the swift response of emergency teams, including police, fire services, EMS, the ABDF, and the Red Cross. He highlighted the importance of VC Bird International Airport’s longer runway in managing such critical situations.

Two emergency landings in 12 hours? Hope authorities are investigating any common issues.

A good job well done, on behalf of the Pilots and, the professional preparedness of the Antigua 🇦🇬 Barbuda first responders ground crews in attendance to the critical incidences of mechanical malfunctioning of Aircrafts occurring in our manifested realm of space and time, and, that a positive outcome was achieved-saved by the kind, most gracious complements of our “Creator’s” will. We stand in solem relative retreat as a nation: bound in thankful reprieve of the outcome of the occurrences, as unto to thee Oh Lawd: thy praises be done.
Kudos to our airport emergency crews for handling not one, but two emergency landings within 12 hours!
It’s reassuring to see their professionalism and preparedness in action. The longer runway at VC Bird International Airport clearly played a vital role in these successful landings, showcasing the importance of continuous infrastructure improvements. 👏🛬
Absolutely, @Luka! The airport crews’ prompt and professional response during these emergency landings is truly commendable. It’s great to see their dedication and expertise on display. Their actions make us proud and give us confidence in the safety of our airport.
Well done to everyone involved. This definitely raises the international profile of V.C. Bird Int’l Airport. As such it may be necessary to procure an additional fire truck to ensure that the one stationed at the airport is there 24/7. Because as you have seen an emergency landing can happen at any time.
In addition, I think it is time for a fire truck to be stationed in the biggest village of each parish. With the amount of vehicles now in Antigua I think it’s impractical to have the majority of the trucks stationed in St. John’s. Too many times I have been in traffic in town seen fire trucks trying to make their way through to respond to a fire call.
