He said most Antiguan and Barbudan students are based in western Cuba and were unaffected, while six in Santiago de Cuba are in good condition and assisting medical teams with hurricane relief.

Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday as a Category 5 hurricane with 185 mph winds before weakening over Cuba. At least 28 people have been reported dead across Haiti and Jamaica, with more missing.

Cuba evacuated over 735,000 residents ahead of the storm and has begun recovery efforts, including restoring power and distributing food and medicine. Communication lines largely remained open during the hurricane, allowing coordination and family contact.

The Ambassador called Melissa the strongest storm of the 2025 season and said Antiguans wishing to support relief efforts can contact the Cuban Embassy for guidance. (SOURCE-

  1. Thanks be to God! I wonder if any of our super pampered “Jamaican” students who survived the ordeal would follow the lead of our students in Cuba who also survived the passage of Hurricane Melissa and offer their assistance, however small, to the people and country of Jamaica, their current second home!!! during the rebuilding process.
Nah! I doubt it. These young adults are of a completely different mindset. You’ve seen the narrative. ” Help! Get me out of here! I don’t belong here! I want my mommy! The government too wicked to leave us here among these people!”
Thank God, the sun shines on the just and the unjust
equally. Isn’t it SCARY just to imagine that our
Kingston survivors are likely in a few short years to find themselves in positions of leadership in a variety of areas in this country????

    Antigua and Barbuda!!🥺🥺
