
Antiguan Educator Dr. Anthony Donaldson Earns Ph.D., Pledging Deeper Commitment to National Education
Antiguan educator, Dr. Anthony S. Donaldson, has reached a significant milestone, successfully completing his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Education from The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).
This achievement marks a new chapter for an educator whose career has been defined by an unwavering passion for teaching and love for
education that has spanned more than two decades.
Dr. Donaldson’s journey is one of deep commitment. His love for education is not merely professional; it is personal.
Throughout his career, which has spanned roles at schools like the Holy Trinity School in Barbuda, Clare Hall Secondary School, Boys Training School, and St. Mary’s Secondary School, he has consistently demonstrated a belief in the transformative power of learning.
Dr. Donaldson’s doctoral research is a direct reflection of his forward-looking approach to education. His Ph.D. focused on leadership strategies utilized by secondary school principals in Antigua to incorporate technology (ICT) for curriculum delivery.
Using a rigorous convergent mixed-methods design, his study aimed to extricate the successes, challenges and possibilities regarding ICT integration as experienced by secondary school principals in Antigua.
This timely research is poised to become a vital resource for Antiguan policymakers, providing the necessary data to develop innovative technology policies that will prepare our students for the demands of a modern, digital society. Dr. Donaldson has already published several journal articles from this significant work.
While celebrating his academic success, Dr. Donaldson continues to be an active force in higher education. He is now a faculty member at the recently established Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies, within the Department of Research, Education and Professional
Development (formerly, the Antigua State College, Department of Teacher Education). Additionally, he serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of the West Indies, Five
Islands Campus, within the School of Humanities and Education. In these roles, Dr. Donaldson will now assist in mentoring the next generation of educators and professionals. Dr. Donaldson’s core teaching philosophy is centered on student-centric, transformative learning
that fosters critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and real-world application. He views education not merely as the transmission of content, but as a dynamic, collaborative process. Dr. Donaldson truly believes in creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment that
respects diverse backgrounds and learning styles, where students are challenged to grapple with complex ideas, while becoming reflective, independent thinkers. Dr. Donaldson wishes to thank his family and friends for their love, support and encouragement throughout his academic journey.
