Anituga Nice – Junella King joins the all-female youth Maiden crew on its first Ocean Globe Race and becomes the youngest black female to sail around the world.

The Globe starts in September 2023.

The eight-month adventure will split into four legs, sailing around the three great Capes, Africa’s Cape of Good Hope, Australia’s Cape Leeuwin, and South America’s notorious Cape Horn, which has attracted an eclectic mix of dedicated sailors, befitting such an adventure.

Maiden UK (03) crew member Junella King (22) who was selected to sail onboard from the ranks of Antigua’s National Sailing Academy was truly excited at the chance of being offered to compete in the Ocean Globe Race and further The Maiden Factor’s mission.

This includes raising awareness of the 130 million girls worldwide who are currently unable to access education and fundraising for and supporting community programmes which enable girls into education.

Our main goal, as well as preparing for the race, is still empowering little girls and raising funds for female education.

And now entering the OGR is exciting and challenging and allows me to experience some amazing ocean racing.

  1. You go girl
Another Female Antiguan again setting our country on the world map. Our men have a lot to catch up.

  2. Hey the young men have a lot of catching up to do. The Gratest Antiguan is still Vivian Richards- followed by Andy, Richie, Winston Benjiman & Son. We need a male desk as we did with the female desk to save our young men. This is Linked to Leadership , Education & morality.
Leadership- Our leaders are only concerned about lining their pockets.
Education- too many of our young men are dropping out of school. That weed smoking law needs to be looked at seriously.
Morality- Good examples , solid examples . The just concluded carnival says to me a lot to where we are and where we are heading.
