Antigua will buy COVID-19 drug Merck, PM says

When it becomes available, Antigua and Barbuda will buy the COVID-19 drug by Merck.

Drugmaker Merck has said that its experimental pill for people sick with COVID-19 reduced hospitalisations and deaths by half, in a potential leap forward in the global fight against the pandemic.

If cleared by regulators, it would be the first pill shown to treat COVID-19.

The company said it will soon ask health officials in the US and around the world to authorise the pill’s use. A decision from the US Food and Drug Administration could come within weeks after that, and the drug, if approved, could be distributed quickly soon afterward.

A pill taken at home would ease pressure on hospitals and could also help curb outbreaks in poorer and more remote corners of the world that don’t have access to the more expensive infusion therapies.

Merck and its partner Ridgeback Biotherapeutics said early results showed patients who received the drug, molnupiravir, within five days of COVID-19 symptoms had about half the rate of hospitalisation and death as those who received a dummy pill.

  1. Now Mr. PM, here lies a controversy with this Merck Pill/Drug…
    A…since, it a treatment to reduce the severity of virus on the body, the same thing which the vaccines are doing:
    (i)…..will it be considered just as taking a vaccine?
    (ii)….why can’t our local indigenous #Treatments which have worked and are still working to keep this virus and others at bay, be considered just as viable as the Merck Treatment? To those of you who are naysayers about herbal and other #Natural/Organic Treatments which are still #SCIENTIFIC, say it ain’t so, please put up some money against this fact. I’m taking bets.
    Don’t get me wrong, again, due to the fact that several people who become infected with this virus do need ALLOPATHIC Treatments vaccines, processed drugs/pharmaceuticals to deal with this and other viruses, not and I repeat, not everyone needs a vaccine to deal and heal from the negative effects, of this virus.
    Yes, yes, yes your vaccines(antidote) to whatever is reaping havoc on mainly the weak is needed due to its #Fast #Furious #Fluid #Ferocious nature. However, there are other ways of taming this beast, not the money side of it, because as you see, the PM knows his government have to spend money, mo money, only money to deal with this beast releases on HUEmanity.
    Therefore, those of Us who wants to ride this COVID-19 Runaway Rollercoaster in the Organic Natural Renedy/Treatment Compartment should be fine, once this rollercoaster comes under control.
    We are not anti-vaccine, and MERCK’s Treatment is proving to those #WHO’RE shouting CONSPIRACY TERRORIST and pointing fingers at those who oppose to being jabbed, that they are only SHEEPLE being led by the NARRATIVES of the Media and this is fine; but, please allow room at the table for productive counter arguments.

Well, if you’re going to talk about drugs then lets talk about Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin (which our own hospital used to use to treat COVID before the Worth Wealth Organization tried to stamp it out). You see, this is simple economics. Ivermectin and HCQ have been out for decades. Nobody makes any real money off them. Newer drugs on the other hand benefit both the pharma companies and the FDA (which makes 43% of it’s income just from new applications not to mention all the donations and sideline stuff. They’re just people you know). You can’t really blame the people for wanting to make a profit but let’s keep this thing above board.

      Antigua actually had a really good record of saving COVID patients up to a few months ago.

      I was actually surprised at how many people were surviving mechanical ventilation with COVID in Antigua.

      Now people are dropping dead like flies after being admitted to the hospital.

      I know Cuba was using a cocktail of drugs to treat COVID patients and Cuba also had a very low death rate.

    • Ivermectin rebranded so they can charge more to governments around the world. Merck is the maker of ivermectin that has shown 60-80% effectiveness against the virus but it cost only cents so they have to hatch another scheme to profit from it. Heaven help us!

      If our government had given out zinc, vitamin c and D, NAC and ivermectin as a prophylactic at the start of the pandemic, we would be in such better position and an example to the world.

  8. Is full of it as usual. This medication will be too expensive for Antigua to afford to buy in any significant numbers.

    It’s also a known mutagen.
