Antigua Trades and Labour Union Pays Tribute to Former Labour Commissioner Hesketh Williams

The Antigua Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) has expressed its condolences following the death of former Labour Commissioner Hesketh Williams, describing him as a man of exceptional intellect and lasting influence in industrial relations.

In a statement issued on Friday, AT&LU President Bernard de Nully said the union’s Executive Committee, staff and membership extend their “deepest and sincere condolences” to Williams’ family and friends.

“This is indeed a difficult time but may the consolation of the positive and precious memories of him strengthen you all in time to come,” the statement read.

Williams was recognised for his “sterling contribution” to Antigua and Barbuda in the field of industrial relations. The union noted his “wealth of knowledge, balanced judgement and an intellect among the best,” adding that his legacy will endure for decades.

Quoting the biblical passage John 16:22, de Nully urged those mourning to find comfort in the promise of reunion and lasting joy: “Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”

Williams is remembered as a respected figure whose work and wisdom shaped labour relations in the nation. The union concluded its tribute with the words: “May he rest in perpetual peace.”
