CMC- Health Minister, Sir Molwyn Joseph, says Antigua and Barbuda could become the first country in the Caribbean to offer a cancer prevention vaccine after it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a hospital in China last week.
Molwyn, who was part of the Antigua and Barbuda delegation that was headed by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, told reporters on his return here Monday evening that the vaccine could become a reality within two years.
“What excited me in China was the opportunity to learn more of what is already there in terms of science and technology in dealing with so many of the diseases that are taking the lives of Antiguans and Barbudans, such as diabetes,” he told reporters.
“I was blown away when we visited a hospital and we were able to see a piece of equipment that not only diagnosed the patient at the end stage of the disease, but it is an equipment that can forecast the disease.”
He described the Chinese approach to health care was very revealing and “they have the equipment that gives them that capacity, not only for diabetes but for cancer screening.
“There is a new technology which we were fully exposed to, where dealing with cancer would be like dealing with a vaccine. They are saying that they are working on a vaccine that can prevent cancer.
“Can you imagine that, but not only that, but they are developing the technology to give your body the ability to fight cancers and that technology according to the scientists is about two years away from maturing and we here in Antigua and Barbuda will have the opportunity to be first in line for that technology that can be shared with the rest of the Caribbean,” he added.

Does Molwyn take Antiguans for fools? I cannot believe what I just read. How did this man become the Health Minister? This man keeps making statements without providing any scientific data to prove what he is saying.
A vaccine that can prevent cancer? Will that be for breast, prostate, or skin cancer?

3. Michael Joseph is no oncology pharmacist, so who advised them before all of these MOU were signed in China ? And why didn’t that person be the one to break the news about the vaccine and about the AI for cancer prevention and detection?

Did I hear that the “first world” was administering this vaccine? Of course not. Molwyn and his leader have never seen a new drug or unprovable technology that they don’t want to experiment on Antiguans. Do we ever hear of this foolishness coming out of any other Caribbean country? Now we all get old, docile and slow if we live long enough. But should this type of individual be making any decisions which can effect the peoples lives? Don’t you think that if there was a vaccine that could prevent cancer the whole world would know about it?

I don’t know who made molwyn think a vaccine is a great idea. Didn’t they learn from covid? Now they sign on we to be guinea pigs ?
He should have had those in the know conduct some educational sessions with the country b4 signing any mou. Next thing we know, we go to slbmc for an Xray, and get a scratch on our arm and don’t realize we are getting the chemical +/- being enrolled in a study.

I hope China tries the vaccine on its populace first, before experimenting on third-world countries as they refer to us here in the Caribbean.
Free screenings one a year, low cost on vegetables and proteins that are needed for the body to repair its cells are things that we must focus on not another vaccine. Please stop trying to use vaccines for everything instead of helping the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda to having healthier lifestyles through low cost vegetation.
