Antigua Sets Timelines for Five Islands Primary and UWI Expansion

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that work is under way on a new primary school at Five Islands, alongside major expansion plans for the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus.

Speaking on Point FM, Browne said construction of the Five Islands Primary School has begun under a local contractor and is expected to be completed within two years. The fully air-conditioned facility is being financed by the Saudi Fund for Development.

He added that the same fund has committed US$200m for the expansion of the UWI Five Islands Campus. The project is scheduled to go to tender by October, with construction expected to start in the first quarter of next year.

The Prime Minister described both projects as critical investments in Antigua and Barbuda’s education system, aimed at expanding access and supporting long-term national development.
