Loop Caribbean News- The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) is appealing to residents to refrain from stealing the batteries from the solar lights installed at various locations across the island.

The plea came from APUA’s Corporate Communications Officer, Anazette Reynolds.

Reynolds said this plea is in response to a concern from a customer about the absence of streetlights in the vicinity of the St John’s Pentecostal Church House of Restoration, St John’s, Antigua.

  1. As I have said countless times these solar battery housing is not something that is accessed daily weekly or monthly. It therefore baffles me as to why APUA can effect a secure locking soluton to these casing. All these brilliant minds this simple soluton doesn’t resonate with anyone?

  2. Who are you calling my country a 3rd world country? We are a DEVELOPING country, doing our best. These things also happens in those so called 1st countries.

  3. Don’t be disrespectful Antigua is definitely a 3rd world country the only thing developing here is more poverty for locals as the government caters to the money holders that bribe them.

  4. I have traveled to different countries and saw them make adjustments to the solar lights to make them theft proof , the engineers should a figure out that the lights were constructed for more develop countries that never sleeps and fast highway where it’s impossible to steal or vandalized public property, and make adjustments like other Caribbean countries and put the batteries at the top instead of half the way up the pole, some people are engineers by academic and not experience.

  5. Blame the politicians who introduced ” self enrichment”, otherwise called “tiefing”. The people see how rich some of them have become and are following their lead to “self enrichment”(tiefing). Now that that has been fully engrained in our psyche, the people vote back in the politicians who will allow them to self enrich(tief), who continue to self enrich(tief) as well.
So we are now caught in a Vicious cycle that can only be broken when we deal with the root cause of the problem. Vote out those who introduced this “self enrichment”(tiefing) and change that culture Once we get rid of that culture we won’t have to appeal to people to be civic minded.

  6. I really don’t understand what they’re doing with the batteries.

If they’re stealing them, maybe just revert to the wired lights and call it a day

  7. @Zackie boy…While you mock your government, we foreigners doin’ great. The government has the EDF that they are constantly promoting and yet all you garots do, is…you guessed it: COMPLAIN! So while your country folk ‘teif’ batteries, we are indulged in self enrichment…Just started my third little ABnB that your government is offering lands at small prices.

So @zackie boy, you go and promote ‘Self Enrichment’ in a negative light so that your locals will stay dumbed down and thus we will have more acess to the EDF
