Antigua police investigate alleged sexual assault at hotel
Police in Antigua and Barbuda are investigating an alleged sexual assault involving a tourist at a local hotel, authorities have said.
The complainant, a 26-year-old woman, told police she was sexually assaulted by a male hotel employee on the evening of 28 July.
The victim and her 24-year-old female companion arrived in Antigua and Barbuda on 27 July and checked into the hotel the same evening.
According to police, the two women were socialising in the hotel’s bar area where they interacted with several hotel employees.
The victim reportedly told one employee she felt unwell. He allegedly offered to take her to her room but instead led her to another room in the hotel, where the assault is said to have taken place.
Authorities said the woman managed to return to the lobby area, where she reunited with her friend who had been searching for her.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. No arrests have been made, and inquiries continue.

Not sure where this information came from but it is totally incorrect. Is this a cover up to protect tourism? I have a brother who works at that hotel. The woman and the young man went to Tshirt mas and the day fete La Playa and they were drinking and hugging and having a ball. And then when she caught herself she is crying wolf. And nothing happened in a hotel room but in a car.
The story don’t make sense!!!! U with your friend drinking at the hotel bar socializing with hotel staff which is the norm…..You start to feel unwell/drunk and u decide to ask the hotel staff instead of your friend to accompany u back to your room…..Where was the friend at the time when she was not feeling well??…..Not saying the staff had any right to assault her or take advantage of her if that is infact the case….Many times the guest visit the bars and get wasted then flurt with the staff and most times lead to other interactions….She very well infact could be a victim of a sick minded predator…She could also of been intoxicated and initially liked the company of the staff but then came to her senses when she realized his true intentions……Either way he had no right to take the lady to another room that shows he had sexual intentions but what we don’t know is if she is telling the truth….What if she was the one who came up with the idea and then came to her senses at some point……….We don’t know….
This foretells why The Jolly Harbour Hotel investment is a risky investment.
The actions of a few bad apples can tank a hotel, or the wider hotel industry for that matter.
Make an example out of this and whomever is wrong is dealt with to the full extent of the law. If it’s the employee JAIL and if the victim files a false report JAIL or HEAVY fine! Time for this crap to stop!!!
You wasn’t feeling well but instead of your friend taking you back to your room, you allowed a complete stranger to do so. By the way were you drug, too drunk or just totally forgetful since you couldn’t even remember your own room number?
Arrived on the 27th and by the evening of the 28th things went down. Wadadli carnival no easy I wonder which one of our beautiful hotels this is ?
Agreed! I have seen this to many times on both sides.
Story sounds a bit rocky but hotel employees must never allow themselves to be alone with any guest and must always approach their job with the professionalism which it deserves. You open yourself up for ridicule and mockery if you do not remain professional and can bring the resort and the country into disrepute.
@The Silver Fox
Are you working on all cylinders? What a silly reason not to invest in real estate.
We still lack common sense and critical thinking skills from the citizens of this country. God be with us.
@Dr. Dave Ray,
Many among us lack critical thinking skills I’d
admit. Let alone common sense. That’s the primary reason why PM Browne is a successful.
The successfulness is not my thoughts, but yours and many.
Crime, especially sexual crimes has always had an adverse effect on tourism industry, world over.
Sexual crimes invariably has an adverse effect on hotels and related industries should it get out of hand and is not handled in a transparent manner and addressed either law enforcement policies.
Jolly Harbour as a real estate investment has not panned out in the past. Many people who have invested have lost their money.
It does not take any critical thinking skills to understand that this is a risky investment.
My question to you is: Have you seen the proforma or setup surrounding this investment?
Social Security money should be invested in assets with predictable returns and low risk.
Hospitality and Hotels as an investment class is considered high risk.
Your vernacular about cylinders further my thoughts about you, as a light weight “wannabe”
A good retort to Dave Ray @ SILVER FOX. 👍🏾
As an investor myself, having a diversified portfolio is a must, and like you, I see investing in the hotel sector as a very high risk venture with way too many improbables, whereas, targeting a more low risk longer term diversification of stocks end shares across a raft of sectors would be a much safer bet and speculation.
Obviously Dr Ray has earned his Doctorate – and well done to him -, however he doesn’t understand business (just like our Prime Minister Browne if he thinks the Jolly Beach Resort investment scheme is a good one) and the financial field like those of us who’ve been in this area for many a year.
Problem is you guest come fling yourself on these men then call rape after you get exposed
shud have put it in her ass and mouth… lying frigging guest……come here trying to let people lose thier jobs. Alot of you make up stories about staff stealing from your rooms and also lie about food quality after eating your plate clean just to get money back too.
Madame Dave Ray and his good BUDDY Faithful National #1 are two birds of the same nasty feather. They are both Gaston’s favourite ASS KISSERS so the can never be objective, always partisan
@Dr. Dave Ray,
Many among us lack critical thinking skills. Do you know why Dr. Ray?
If you don’t know the reason why? You are ignorant of important aspects of Antigua and Barbuda political and educational history.
Golden Grove Secondary School was created in 1960 from the pressures brought on VC Bird Sr. by Novelle Richards: the PM grandfather
Richards was from Liberta and was interested in country people getting free secondary education
The Golden Grove Secondary School was later merged into PMS when Novelle Richards was dispatched (forced) to Trinidad.
Why is this of any significance to critical thinking or the lack there of statement.
The party you support had a philosophy of “Keep them ignorant begging, and misinformed. That’s how you control them, even when you abuse them”
Thank God Golden Grove Secondary gave me the foundation to go on to the architecture school in London and further my education at U Penn and Columbia University in the inaugural class in Real Estate Development.
Lehman College would have offered courses for it’s SEEK students develop critical thinking skills while you were there but you seem to have opted for political demagogy.
Don’t worry .. police say they are investigating.. just hope they investigate before having the said young man locked up and wasting his time
This sounds like a case of buyers remorse.
