(CMC)—Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne on Monday urged the United States to settle its differences with Venezuela ”through diplomacy and dialogue,” reiterating that the Caribbean region should be a zone of peace.

Last week, US President Donald Trump said he had made up his mind on a course of action in Venezuela following multiple high-level briefings and a mounting US show of force in the region that includes the presence of the US’s largest carrier, the USS Gerald Forde.

“I sort of have made up my mind — yeah. I mean, I can’t tell you what it would be, but I sort of have,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

But in a message posted on his Facebook page on Monday, Prime Minister Gaston Browne wrote, “We encourage President Trump to resolve the differences between the US and Venezuela, through diplomacy and dialogue.

“Let’s continue to preserve our hemisphere as a zone of peace,” he added.

Last month, the Caribbean Community (Caricom) leaders issued a statement in which they said they “met and discussed various issues on the regional agenda, including the increased security build-up in the Caribbean and the potential impacts on member states”.

The statement said that “save in respect of Trinidad and Tobago who reserved its position,” the leaders reaffirmed the principle of maintaining the Caribbean Region as a Zone of Peace and the importance of dialogue and engagement towards the peaceful resolution of disputes and conflict. Caricom remains willing to assist towards that objective”.

In September, Caricom foreign ministers sent a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urging the United States to provide an assurance that any military action aimed at Venezuela will not threaten regional stability or occur without prior consultation and warning.

The United States ordered an amphibious squadron to the southern Caribbean as part of President Trump’s effort to address threats from Latin American drug cartels.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who has openly supported Washington’s war on drugs in Latin America and the Caribbean, said she had “no sympathy for traffickers” and that the US military should “kill them all violently.

A nuclear-powered attack submarine, additional P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft, several destroyers and a guided-missile cruiser have also been allocated to the US Southern Command as part of the mission.

Venezuela has since responded to what it termed the threat posed by the United States and has itself marshalled its troops along its borders.

  1. This needs to stop now jack! We cannot afford to retrogress in the name of “POWER”. It’s very scary when you really think about the seriousness of these actions.

  2. Diplomacy??? Trump does not know the meaning of the word. He is just another WHITE world bully terrorizing the rest of the world with total impunity. He is indeed the “madman on the loose”, a world terrorist of the worst kind. Look at the way he treats his own countrymen who all cower in fear of this out-of-control monster. Diplomacy??? Really, Mr. PM???

  3. @ Faithful National #1
Your statement is just “food for fodder”
When you write: “Look at the way he treats his own countrymen who all cower in fear of this out-of-control monster”.
Interestingly that statement is applicable to the local monster that you frequently defend and adulate in your comments.

I will admit that your local monster is more articulate than Trump. I’ll give that to him.
We can go down the litany of character traits that makes them pea in a pod.
Your guy is just in a smaller arena.
He is a black Regional bully terrorizing the rest of the Region with total impunity.
He too like is indeed the “madman on the loose”.

  4. Maduro does not want to heart what America has to say…..He wants to remain as dictator of Venezuela which means to hell with democracy and to hell with what the people of the country really want….You Gaston and many small countries keep failing to realize America has tried to reach out to Maduro and tell him to please stand down…He says F**k Y** I will do what I want so now this is the situation at hand….President Obama tried diplomacy with Muammar Gaddafi and it failed big time he said F**k Y** so they had to go in and get him…The same thing happened 36 years ago in Panama when America ask Manuel Antonio Noriega and he said F**k Y** I will do what I want and then bam invasion of Panama….Why are y’all acting like this is a Trump thing?? No!! No!!!! This is an America thing to do when diplomacy fails…

  5. A dictator doesn’t need elections to stay in power. Venezuela have had elections as per their constitution. And foreign observers which included our very own people of ABEC have been part of the observer group. And the report they produced was always that the elections were free and fair. Note that no election is perfect. Donald Trump also won some very controversial election and he almost refused his defeat against Biden and encourage his voters to start a revolution. One we all witnessed on the television live. And what did he do when he came back in office this year. He pardoned them all. Is that how democracy works?
The USA has only one objective and that is to install puppet government so that they can control the oil and thereby have the opperhand against China. It’s all a big power grab game of who controls the OIL
But I don’t think things will go easy for them if they decide on this military option.

  6. Gaston please take a seat laddie. Your words and thoughts on this is useless. We want to hear about when the real investigations are going to begin regarding CORRUPTION in your administration in Antigua & Barbuda.
In essence CARICOM is bringing a water pistol to go up against, nuclear weapons in this WAR.

What diplomacy? Wall Street have already decided how this will play out.

CARICOM can approach China or Russia for some 303 Rifles or some bow & arrows to replace their water pistols.

Please concentrate on the CORRUPTION which is plaguing your ABLP Administration like a COVID-19 virus.

  7. Hmmmmm So @ Less We Forget…..Donald Trump stole the 2016 elections because Putin help him to win??? All Conspiracy theories that went to court and out the window because democrats couldn’t believe Trump won…..Donald Trump Lost in 2020 and his supporters decided to storm the capital he never told them to do so…They did it on their own he said he will contest the results and they were contested..The American people realized they made a mistake by electing a senile Preident and a useless mixed race woman who only identified with black people when she wanted our votes….When Kamala Harris was district Attorney in Califoria she gave black people much harsher sentences for crimes…..She never identified with black people untill it suited her narative….If Trump was anywhere close to trying to be a dictator he would try to have them shot like the democrats tried to kill Trump twice…….Trump is getting rid of Maduro because the exile former politicians in Venezuela have all reached out to the US. Maduro is a true dictator he has silenced and exiled many of his critics, he is working with the Russians and drug cartels….HE WILL BE REMOVED!

  8. And also @ Less We Forget I would like you to go research the list of people Joe Biden pardoned…..SMH…..

  9. The only thing I fear could happen is World War 3 if China decides to invade Taiwan while America invades Venezuela….America would have to aid Taiwan and Russia will use the opportunity to use the real heavy bombs on Ukraine…It might also cause Israel to face potential threats from their neighbors like Iran thinking the US is too occupied with other conflicts….I know for sure the USA, Russia and China does not want nuclear war with each other..They all have the big bad bombs but they know they could end all life on this planet if things get out of control and none of them want that…It’s called Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD)…

  10. People in Iraq said we are starving the dictator is mistreating us we have no health care system and we don’t have freedom of speech…People in other countries living good said Saddam Hussein loved his people and he was a good man they had no reason to get rid of him……People is Libya said we are not living good please help us we are being murdered if we speak against the government and we are starving…..People n other countries living good said Gaddafi is a good man who loved his people and they had no reason to get rid of him…….Right now people is North Korea and trying to see how they can get across the border into Soul South Korea because they are afraid to say how they really feel about Kim Jong Un and hsi constant watchful eye……People in Antigua and nice western countries say Kim Jong Un loves his Korean people and they are happy over there……..Venezuelan people we did not elect Maduro and we cannot speak out against him…Trump leave the poor man alone he loves his country u bully…

  11. If you ask Republicans Trump is the greatest. At least some of them. If you ask Democrats none of them love Trump l. Even former presidents calling on people to stand up against his policies and hoe he is using the military to implement them. ICE is brutalizing the citizens of all race. Should we send the military of other nations to safe the American people from Trump? Maybe. But then again you get the government you deserve. And no country has the right to meddle in the internal affairs of another country. Otherwise where does it stops.

  12. Look how long it has taken Gaston ‘Fly-away’ Browne to react to this horrific situation. This isn’t a recent development. Not at all!

Trump wants the Venezuelan oil. Simply put, so he’s attacking innocent and hardworking fishermen – saying they are smuggling drugs – to provoke a war.

Yet, the US has other countries on their doorstep importing illegal drugs at will. Go figure folks!

Venezuela 🇻🇪 has been a supportive friend of Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬 (and Browne well an’ know this); especially in financial and medical matters. Again Prime Minister Browne is being more reactive then proactive – how did this man ever get into politics? He’s useless!

Only his sycophants and acolytes thinks he’s doing a good job. So sad for the country!

Wars always escalate when the powers that be dither and dally. Browne to a ‘T’ …

If he applied the same measures in how he mek money, Venezuela would be more than gracious to he.

  13. Why are you guys deliberately missing the point. Democracy is not the best system of government, but it is surely the best of evils. The early Christians practiced Communism. They live in Community and everyone that came into the community had to sell all they have and donate it to the community to be shared amongst each others equally. A capitalist could not live in such a community. A socialist believes the cake should be shared more equally but still allow some to have a little more then others. Capitalism says every men/women for themselves and God the Creator for us all. And if not. Trust on the goodhearted Rich to have some crumbs fall from their table for the poor. But do not get jealous of my created wealth. As I said there is good and bad in every system. China e.g. is able to mix the two systems presently very effectively. Political wise there is only One Party. But one can be elected within the party. People vote their members into the party and these members than vote again for their leaders and the leaders vote again for one head leader. In our so called democracy we the people vote for the party we want to have run the country’s affair. And those elected have a term limit. Democracy is very divisive. Since the majority could be very slim, 50% plus 1. in some cases. We have seen that in America their democracy is totally different. They have what they call an electoral college. What happened e.gh. in 2016 is that Trump won the electoral college while Hilary won the popular vote. Which translate that the majority of American preferred Hilary over Trump. This may work for them, but many countries have the One person One vote system. And in all of these systems their are glitches that politician take advantage of when election comes. One advantage taken by PM Brown was in the 2018 election when he called early election catching the opposition off-guard. in other words with their pants down. And let me tell you with the problems they are having lately if he were to call an election now they will definitely loose again. The USA does it with what they call Gerrymandering the electoral college in such a way that they can easily predict the outcome of the election. Based on how certain demographics vote. E.g. Many black voters vote Democrats. So Waterdown their concentration such that they will never become the majority in a electoral college. Anyway, I say all of this to show that no system is perfect and whenever elections are called the looser will always find that the elections were not free and fair. But for that reason we invite external observers. When we look at the recently held elections in Guyana it was said again that the elections were stolen. Or bought. Well I say the opposition should have seen it coming. Here at home you guys cried out as well that the ABLP stole the election. First because according to you guys the PM said he transferred voters from his constituency to others that needed them. Again if that is so, you would have learned your lessons by now. But even the ABLP claimed that the late Asot Michael stole the election because of the huge increase of voters in that constituency. Well they too should by now have learned their lesson. Now tell me, does all of this means that any outsider can come and throw over the government because they do not like the way in which the election was won? Hell NO. No country should ever meddle in the internal affairs of another country. Unless there is gross violation of human rights. Millions went to the poll in Venezuela, Some voted for Maduro some voted for the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Are you saying now that the millions voted for Maduro should accept that they didn’t win and that Mr. Trump will decide for them who won. If that is the case why not ask America to appoint the presidents in all the countries where he thinks it matters to him. If we believe in Democracy we will walk that road at anytime until we achieve the change we so desperately want. And it is up to the people of that country to effect that change. We have learned enough of this puppet master politics from the USA in the past. They installed so many of them that became ruthless dictators. The entire South and Central America was full of them and we saw the rise of many guerrilla groups fighting those military juntas. And they had no support from Washington so they went to Cuba and the Soviet Union. And now America labeled them as Communist. Which in the mouth of the American is a very bad word. And these are the same people profess to be followers of Christ. The early Christian as I said practiced Communism.
Early Christians, particularly the first community in Jerusalem, lived in a radical communal life, sharing possessions, having meals together, praying, and teaching, as described in the Book of Acts. This involved selling property to meet everyone’s needs, creating a “one heart and one soul” community where personal ownership was secondary to the group’s welfare, a practice rooted in Jesus’ teachings.
I’m the product of this age democracy and capitalism and although profess to be a Christian I will not sell my possession to share with no one but my children. I will fail the test of Christ just like the Rich Man that came to Christ and ask him Master what must I do to earn Eternal Life. And when Jesus told him to sell all that he had and give it to the poor and follow him, he went away. I’m that man. Not proud of it. But it will take a lot to change me. Knowing I came into this world with nothing and I will leave with nothing.
So please do not twist things and ask me if I think Trump stole the election? I don’t give a damn. That is for the Americans to worry about. I know Gaston Browne ABLP won Antigua and Barbuda’s election and I pray and hope they will do so again and again and again. Until we have a real opposition. A real alternative. no matter how long it takes.

  14. @ Less We Forget u really have those democrats fulling ur head with BS I see smh……..ICE is doing NOTHING different than what has been happening for DECADES!! The southern border is not a free entry passage they have been brutally securing it even during democratic presidents like ur precious Obama…Your precious Obama and all US governments before and the ones to come in the future will face immigration challenges and they will arrest and deport loads of illegal Aliens…Ya see all US presidents before Trump were politicians and maybe one movie star named Raegan but they all had one thing in common they tried to make people love them……Trump is not trying to make anyone like him with nice words and a smile he looks for the end result and once things turn out the way it was expected that’s good enough for him…..Because people don’t like Orange Man it creates and picture that he is rouge guy doing different stuff… No No he is doing nothign different from others before and who will come after…..

  15. It is all about oil.A lot of drugs cross the US border from Mexico and not one word about military action against Mexico. The venezuelan people have to endure economic sanctions against them for years. When will the rest of the world realize that the real tyranny is the USA .

  16. GASTON BROWN you need to URGE the BUS DRIVER MADURO to liberate the VENEZUELAN people, FREE all POLITICAL PRISONERS,RESTORE HUMAN RIGHTS and have fair and free elections observe by the CARTER CENTER USA,E U election OBSERVATION MISSION (EU EOM).In order to have a ZONE OF PEACE in the CARIBBEAN.The words DIALOGUE and DIPLOMACY are not not in A SEWERAGE RAT MADURO dictionary.

  17. @ LESS WE FORGET!! No matter how many paragraphs u right it still remains USA is one of the best countries in the world….The system is way than that of countries ruled by dictators and USA is the world’s leading super power it will get involved in domestic situations of other countries especially when it sees a threat to it’s own security…..Russia Maduro and OIL….NO!!! NO!!!! PUTIN!! NO!!!!!!!! Wishing all a blessed evening…

  18. @ Less We Forget, I beg you please, can I teach you to write in a more legible manner?

You must learn to break-up your sentences into more readable passages and paragraphs, so that ANR readers can understand what you are writing into “bite sized” pieces.

Also, when you want to go into your long-winded diatribes, throw in some humorous verses or Caribbean phrases – it works for me! 😉

Anyway boss, let me know asap!

    I BEG YOU PLEASE… 🤣

  19. @Islander

Well said sir..the best comment on this very delicate matter.
It’s well known that I think GB is no leader, but for Antigua sake for his next three years in office, he must pick a side..and I’ve advice him to choose the US. He does not want to go down in his(for Antigua’s sake) as the PM who stands against the US.

Regardless of who is President of the US or whether y’all like the Donald or not, loyalty has to be shown..and to choose a man like Maduro, would be the most foolish move ever.

GB is deflecting from the real issue here, and that is the fact that he had talks with both sides, and both have asked him for his loyalty, so that’s why he’s toeing the line.

Yes GB, we all want the Caribbean to be a zone of peace, but that’s not the reality right now..there is a war that’s being fought even against Antigua’s very own borders, and you are losing it with all the guns and drugs that have permiate the streets of Antigua.

So you better stop all the deflections and deal with your own affairs. Just pick a side and leave the rest..no one will hate you for choosing the US.

Antiguan’s love the US dollar in their pockets.

  20. @ this world is a messed up place
I’m no supporter or defender of Maduro but the Russian elections were just a corrupt as it is claimed Venezuela was.
Hugo Chavez was elected in what were fair and democratic elections, but the US went after him after he took over the corrupt oil industry.

This is about OIL you all. Chevron wants back into the Venezuela oil fields. Back to ripping of the Venezuelans as they did before Hugo Chavez
Oil to be controlled by Americans, Trump and his buddies.
It’s reported that Trinidad is conducting military drills with US troops in Trinidad.
CARiCOM of which Trinidad and Antigua are members has already issued a statement. It’s meaningless statement except it states how CARICOM as a group of nations in the Caribbean seas feels about what going on.

For Antigua as well as other Caribbean countries this means PDVcab will come to an end.
WIOC is likely to become collateral damage and cease to exist.
That’s what Gaston should be talking about. The long term economic impact on Antigua and others should the US invade Venezuela.

In a side note: The Noble Laureate who dedicated her prize to Trump; will be asked to hand it over the oil fields once he dispose of Maduro and install her.
Trump will tell her: “I put you there, so as I say” when she hand over the Noble Prize Award; He will then display it as his most coveted award.

  21. The June 2025 No Kings protests, also known internationally as the No Dictators or No Tyrants protests, is a series of demonstrations, largely in the United States, against what the organizers describe as authoritarian policies of Donald Trump and corruption in his administration. Wikipedia

No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.
On October 18, more than 7 million of us rose up at more than 2,700 events in all 50 states, DC, and cities worldwide to say: America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people. Now, our task is to stay vigilant, stay united, and continue to push back.

In June, we did what many claimed was impossible: peacefully mobilized millions of people to take to the streets and declare with one voice — America has No Kings. And it mattered. The world saw the power of the people. President Trump’s birthday parade was drowned out by protests in every state and across the globe. His attempt to turn June 14 into a coronation collapsed, and the story became the strength of a movement rising against his authoritarian power grabs.

Four months later, that movement roared back even stronger. On October 18, over seven million Americans joined 2,700+ events in all 50 states — a nationwide uprising 14 times larger than both of Trump’s inaugurations combined. What began in June as a single day of defiance has become a sustained national resistance to tyranny, spreading from small towns to city centers and across every community determined to defend democracy.

Now, President Trump has doubled down. His administration is sending masked agents into our streets, terrorizing our communities. They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting, and detaining people without warrants. Threatening to overtake elections. Gutting healthcare, environmental protections, and education when families need them most. Rigging maps to silence voters. Ignoring mass shootings at our schools and in our communities. Driving up the cost of living while handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies, as families struggle.

The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings — and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.

Our peaceful movement is only getting bigger. “No Kings” is more than just a slogan; it is the foundation our nation was built upon. Born in the streets, shouted by millions, carried on posters and chants, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together.

Because this country does not belong to kings, dictators, or tyrants. It belongs to We the People — the people who care, who show up, and who fight for dignity, a life we can afford, and real opportunity. No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.

Just some articles above to show where the real DICTATOR sits. Right there in Washington in the USA. And the people of America better standup and fight for their DEMOCRACY or they will lose it. This is no joke. The famous poet:
‘First They Came’: The Poem of Protest
    12 December 2021

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

  22. I suggest CARICOM should show more interest in the maintaining peace in the region. Not just talk about, but do something about it. They should send delegation to both Caracas and Washington to have serious talks and mediate up to the last minute to avoid any escalation of these activities. As we have heard Maduro has already made offers to Washington that they can have a big stake in Venezuelan oil fields. What else does Washington want. His head on a silver platter. Just like they did with Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi. Are they that blood thirsty. We need to avoid a war in our region at all cost by diplomatic means. Let our diplomats work overtime. We really cannot see the outcome of such a war in our region but I am afraid it will be a very high price we have to pay. I suggest Ralph Gonsalves to lead this CARICOM Mission.
