The 2023 JCI West Indies National Convention took place in Antigua from October 11-14, revolving around the theme “Embracing Unity in Beautiful Wadadli.”
The event brought together over 200 participants from across the region, all united by a common goal – to give back, serve, and lead.
This annual convention serves as the primary gathering for members of local organizations across the West Indies, providing a platform for engagement, interaction, participation in training sessions, collaborative problem-solving, and the election of a new executive board.
The convention’s highlights included the opening ceremony, awards ceremony, debating and public speaking competitions, a heritage and cultural exhibition, and the election of the new executive council.
The awards ceremony, a focal point of the week-long regional meeting, witnessed JCI Antigua’s outstanding performance in awards and regional recognition.
JCI Antigua stood out with a remarkable array of awards, notably securing the Distinguished President Awards for “Most Efficient National Councillor,” “Most Responsive National Councillor,” and “Most Professional National Councillor,” all of which were conferred upon Ms. Laurel Jonas.
The local organization also earned the Challenge Awards for “Public Relations Challenge” and “100 Percent Efficiency.”
In addition, JCI Antigua received multiple certificates for participation in various events, including World Clean-Up Day, TOYP (The Outstanding Young Persons Program), Flag Competition, Public Speaking at the Area Conference, and Debating Competition at the Area Conference.
Notably, Antigua received awards for “Largest Delegation” with their 95-member contingent and commendations for “Growth Retention & Engagement,” “Disaster Risk Management,” “Skills & Membership Development,” and recognition for the new flag concept and design by Collet Gordon, created by Avada Media.
The awards ceremony also acknowledged JCI Antigua’s outstanding individuals and programs, including “Most Outstanding Local President” (Laurel Jonas), “Most Outstanding Local Organization,” “Most Outstanding New Member” (Tnaska Weston), “Best Local Community Impact Program” (Senator Leandra James Cancer Awareness Campaign), and “Best Local Entrepreneurship Program” (Business Seminar – Professionalism in Customer Care). Furthermore, JCI Antigua was honored with the “Building Bridges Impacting Humanity Award” for “Reinforcement” (Senator Shenella Govia) and “Resilience” (EA Shenique Barry), as well as recognitions for the “Most Supportive Board Officer” (NEVP Elect Leycia Samuels) and “Most Efficient Board Officer” (NEVP Elect Leycia Samuels).
Senator Shenella Govia also secured the awards for “Most Outstanding Local Senator” and “Most Outstanding Senator.” A significant achievement during the convention was the election of Antigua’s own Leycia Samuels as the 2024 Executive Vice President of JCI West Indies.
These accomplishments are a source of immense pride for both the chapter and the entire organization.
