A judge in Antigua has given Global Bank of Commerce CEO Brian Stuart-Young until May 19 to pay due installments to investor Jack Stroll or face 21 days in jail.
The warning follows years of delays and a 2022 court ruling ordering Stuart-Young and the bank to repay $10 million to Stroll. Despite multiple deadlines, no payments have been made.
During a tense court session on Friday, Stuart-Young claimed under oath that his Hodges Bay property is worth just XCD $500,000—far less than the estimated USD $3–4 million—and revealed a USD $30,000 monthly salary plus bonuses.
Judge Renee Williams, citing wasted time, ordered him to pay XCD $3,000 in court costs and issued the ultimatum.

I’m very confused – why is this man’s house and where he lives and what car he drives of any relevance to the bank paying back someone’s money? Where else on this green earth is a CEO responsible for somebody’s deposits? That’s ridiculous!
I hate how backwards Antigua is by mixing together civil and criminal remedies in these kinds of matters.
We are far away from the era of putting people in prison for their inability to pay a debt, if the debt was not through a criminal activity.
It was a contract breach or tort wrong, no criminal remedy should be available. So inhumane and archaic.
This man should get his money, but through seizures, judgments, garnishment, etcetera, and without threat of criminal punishments.
I am willing to buy his property for the XCD500,000 that he swore under oath it is worth.
I wouldn’t even pay $5 a sq ft for hodges bay property. The roads are shockingly bad, there are more abandoned properties than saleable properties and bush and cassie galore! No longer the domain of the affluent. Give me a Jolly Harbour beachfront villa any day!

Confused- These people just don’t run this bank they own this bank. They set their own salaries and other benefits. If you investigate you might find out that the bank is paying rent to him for his own property. This is the same bank that the million dollar hurricane gift to Barbuda disappeared in. That is not his only salary. He is paid as resident ambassador to China , many thought it was a delay tactic. I think that the opposition is the ones that should be asking the courts to release the financial information about these individuals and companies. I don’t think that this Russian woman is staying within boundaries. However if the leader of the opposition did the same, it might be a different outcome.
Frankly speaking – If YOU investigate, you may actually find out that not a single thing you propose in what you said is actually true. That’s the problem, people like to assume they know things, when the real story looks very different.

This matter has been allowed to drag out for far too long and is seen as another “black eye” for Antigua and Barbuda. There can be nothing worse than saving your monies in a bank or financial institution and when you are ready for it you are literally having “hells” to get it. Clearly the bank must be experiencing severe liquidity problems such that they do not have the cash to repay the depositor. It begs the question….where is our Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC). Their mission is to develop Antigua and Barbuda as an effectively regulated, well managed major financial services jurisdiction. Clearly they have failed in their mission.
