This initiative, aimed at promoting early detection, reflects the government’s commitment to supporting women’s health nationwide.
A colposcopy, a procedure utilizing a specialized magnifying instrument to examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva, is crucial for detecting abnormal cells that may signal precancerous changes or cancer.
Typically recommended following abnormal Pap tests or positive HPV results, this procedure enables healthcare providers to identify potentially dangerous tissue changes early on.
Globally, cervical cancer remains a leading health threat, with approximately 660,000 new cases and 350,000 deaths reported in 2022, according to the World Health Organization.
Most cases occur in low- and middle-income countries, highlighting the importance of accessible, preventive healthcare.
By offering free colposcopy services at SLBMC, the Cabinet aims to reduce financial barriers, encouraging more women to seek regular screenings.
This policy not only supports early diagnosis but also underscores the government’s broader commitment to strengthening public health initiatives for women.
