CABINET NOTES: Cabinet invited Permanent Secretaries, Government Heads of Department and Union Representatives to its meeting to continue dialog it started last meeting on public sector service inefficiencies, worker accountability, union relations, and efforts to reform and professionalize the public sector in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of an interactive dialogue to address performance issues and solutions, noting that the cabinet supports initiatives to increase PNC (Performance and National Competitiveness) introduced by heads of department.
The Prime Minister acknowledged serious training gaps and the need for an active training division to collaborate in developing accredited courses that can contribute to efficiency, proficiency, and career advancement within the public sector.
He stressed that promotions should be based on competence and performance, not just length of service, to ensure qualified individuals advance and contribute effectively.

Who determine what is competence and performance? Surely it cannot be the PM or Cabinet. They are of the view that ” yes people” and puppet are competent. REALLY?

@ Dion Pelle. It is always easy to criticize. There are standards and order in anything that is organized, from creation up to this moment. Without standards and order mankind would be living in a very chaotic environment. From the beginning of life, human beings seek the best among them to rule or govern.
The public sector definitely needs to be reformed and the only possibility to achieve this is to have people who are capable to do so, step up to the plate. Are you qualified to submit your academic degrees, Mr. Pelle, to assist in doing so as a competent citizen? If not, just allow the others who are, to come forward and do the job. There are scores of qualified young and energetic people who have studied public sector management, at least at the Masters level who can be utilized in that area. everything does not have to be against the Prime Minister, he has been doing a magnificent job. As for competence, see yourself about to take off in an aircraft and sitting at the controls you see Harold Lovell and Gaston Browne and the pilot…who would you want to fly the aircraft? If you still don’t understand the determinant of competence you must have definitely chosen Harold. Politics has its place.
Long overdue! Some public servants really need to step up.
Performance standards? Finally! We paying taxes, we deserve proper service.
This could really improve productivity… if done right.

Training and fair evaluation must go hand in hand. Don’t just penalize.
Reality has confronted the Bully. He challenged a unified body that stood its ground and caused him to cower and he is now talking about dialog and restructuring. What was he expecting when he crammed the public sector with incompetent ‘Faithful Party Hacks’ who believe that they are entitled, to secure a win at the polls? Had you been receptive to dialog, you wouldn’t have gotten in the lnternational mess that is now stressing you.
