Antigua government denies that the hospital is failing patients

Hospital

CABINET NOTES: The Minister of Health gave a report on the frequency of which the SLBMC was utilized by those who became ill.

12,749 patients were processed through radiology during 2023. 15,908 patients were referred to the hospital by private doctors.

3,136 occupied rooms on the wards. 120,000 sessions of dialysis were performed on more than 1,000 patients whose kidneys have failed them.

The SLBMC serves many patients satisfactorily during each calendar year.

The attempt to paint the institution as somehow failing the unwell men, women and children, who enter through its doors, is highly inaccurate.

Concurrently, the Emergency Room (E.R.) is being expanded to care for many who appear at the ER daily.

Many patients need urgent care but not necessarily emergency care.

Nurses and doctors are also being trained to engage patients as though they were customers who expect warm, gentle and professional services.

    • Heard Gaston on his radio station on Saturday say that the man recorded lying on the floor in the emergency room at the hospital was offered a bed and he refused it. So if the patient refuses a bed, which I will bet any amount this is a lie. Does hospital allow a patient to lie on a dirty floor? Then what kind of hospital is this? One thing I will say about the labour government and their supporters, they know how to lie to cover up their inefficiencies. Shame on them.

  1. When anything happens to them they fly out so they won’t know when u have to wait for hours to see a doctor and most times u have to leave without seeing one.

  2. How would they know are they use it? When they are sick, the hospital is not on their mind. Buying a ticket is Paramount for them. So how would they know that it is failing? They don’t care and the other thing staff are still waiting on the covid-19 money that was promised to them after working endlessly and tiresomely putting their lives and their family lives at risk. But guess what as usual, no one cares.

  3. but it is true tell the ppl the truth an done for instant I went up there with a severe headache an eye pain an ended up with asthma attack because the AC at hospital stop working. anthe little fans won’t do !!!!!
thats a major issues right there no AC all of them stop working

  4. THE TROY ALLEN EFFECT OF:”CALL YOUR MINISTER”. Denial-lies-denial, do not change the facts.

Incompetent Mangement and Denials are a standard ploy, that only serve to further dumb down those who cannot think for themselves.

Until a citizen can make an appointment and view the source documents consistent The Freedom of Information Act to verify the data; it’s likely to be all lies.

Lies and misinformation is part and parcel of government methodology of keeping the Poor, Misinformed and Needy.

  5. Looking at your past record regarding issues of health Molwyn ‘AstraZeneca’ Joseph, many Antiguans are very sceptical.

Processing patients and referrals isn’t deemed as treatment – ask Dave Ray!

Nice word play though Minister 👍🏾

  6. In the last 2 years I had 3 emergencies. It was a good experience for me. Always treated well,
The doctors and nurses were very competent and saved me.
Now waiting for a cancer surgery and looking forward with a positive attitude.
If Molvin does a good Job is something different

  7. A couple of questions, regarding the Healthcare System(s) in the region, as in, the OECS or CARICOM…

1…Just like Insurance(home, life, vehicle) plans are regional, managed and owned by regional and quite possibly International agencies, why isn’t the same offered for health insurance? I, know the quagmire of [public/private] partnerships are never easy to navigate through, but with the FREE MOVEMENT of People within the region, healthcare systems on some islsnds will definitely be overburdened.

2…should the OECS and CARICOM be looking to adopt systems like MEDICAID and MEDICARE(yes, they got issues; but, they work and pretty damn well too).

3…besides the local government plans which private companies/businesses have to offer to employees and make compulsory deductions, why not allow private businesses and even Unions, to offer SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE, GROUP INSURANCE, from again Regional or International carriers. This would allow, private MEDICAL PROVIDERS, to come in and manage the Main Public Hospitals while, the local government(s) concentrate on medical facilities in rural/local regions.

Yes! Yeah! Yeah! So what?! It’ll take lots of negotiations, to include mergers and take overs; but, it’s better than twiddling thumbs, throwing spits balls, sitting on hands arguing over 25year old COLD CASES.
The simple logic of HUEmanity still exists, as in, the HEALTH of a COMMUNITY has a direct correlation to the WEALTH, of the COMMUNITY.

Ebree day! A dis fault! A dat fault!
Ah all, ah R U fault to(grannee noooooo, not de foul poo, to wash my mouth out with).😇
