Antigua is considering becoming a hub for pharmaceutical production and distribution as government officials engage in discussions with an undisclosed pharmaceutical firm.
The Ministry of Health is set to consult with the firm, aiming to establish a factory in Antigua to produce high-demand drugs within the Eastern Caribbean.
While specifics about the company, factory location, and drug types remain unclear, the objective is to reduce costs for commonly used medications.
Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst explained that the venture could be more profitable due to the collective purchasing power of the OECS countries.
These discussions follow Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s recent talks involving pharmaceutical partnerships.(Observer)
