Antigua Deploys Plainclothes Police at Schools After Chantel Crump’s Murder

The Antigua and Barbuda government has deployed plainclothes police officers around schools and public areas as part of enhanced security measures following the murder of 9-year-old Chantel Crump.

During the Post-Cabinet Media Briefing, Chief of Staff Ambassador Lionel Hurst confirmed that authorities are stepping up surveillance amid public concerns over child safety and reports of attempted abductions.

“We ask the public to be extra vigilant, especially in areas where large numbers of children gather,” Hurst said. “While we cannot disclose specific details of police operations, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure children’s safety.”

The deployment of plainclothes officers will complement the use of security cameras near schools and high-traffic areas, with authorities planning real-time monitoring of public spaces.

Additionally, the government has announced the creation of the ‘Chantel Alert’—a national emergency alert system similar to Amber Alerts used in other countries. The system will send urgent notifications to mobile phones and digital billboards in cases of suspected child abductions.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed that a suspect is in custody in connection with Chantel Crump’s death. Authorities are also investigating whether there were any co-conspirators involved in the case.

“We already have someone who has admitted to the crime, but as this is a capital case, they must go through the court process and be provided with legal representation,” Hurst explained.

Law enforcement officials have urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation on social media, warning that unverified claims could jeopardize investigations.

Chantel’s murder has sparked public outrage, with advocacy groups and community leaders calling for stronger child protection policies and harsher penalties for crimes against minors.

The government has pledged to increase public education campaigns on child safety and strengthen law enforcement’s capacity to respond swiftly to threats against children.

As investigations continue, authorities are urging parents and guardians to remain cautious, report suspicious activities, and support efforts to improve national security measures.

  1. Great idea for the government to broadcast that information. I guess that they don’t want law enforcement to catch criminals. Shmfh

  2. Help me make sense out of this? Are the children being abducted at school knuckle heads?
They are being targeted as they walk home.
Collate the data on where the attacks are most frequent then deploy your unit there!
    2+2 =4

  3. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRIVATE INFORMATION HELD FROM THE PUBLIC. NOW POTENTIAL ABDUCTORS/CRIMINALS WILL FIND A WAY AROUND THIS. HOW ARE GOING TO CATCH CRIMINALS IF YOU ANNOUNCE YOUR PLANS? WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DISCLOSING THIS INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC WANT “3 HARD HARD LASH INNA DEM R@$$”.

  4. O my gosh! Don’t tell me that that Christopher Lee look alike Max Hurst doesn’t know their are certain information you do not divulge to would be criminals, and they are the smart ones?

  5. Good to know but why y’all notifying the criminals of what you’re doing 🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾

    Common sense cya common anymore

  6. Y’all are asking why they posted it but at the same time if they didn’t post it, y’all would complain and say nothing is being done. Make up your mind antiguans

  7. Well, let’s put it that way, that means the officers are no longer under cover. Unless this was a public statement made, I don’t think that this should be posted. That’s like blowing a cover.

  8. Posting it is appropriate here, it serves deterrence. In fact, the officerd should be in dressed uniform, less threatening but I can live with regular formal clothing as a teacher.

I am happy you are listening to my ideas, but follow them to the teeth. They are strategic, every aspect of my ideas.

  9. Posting this is great. We are not gambling with our children by using them as bait. They are kids, folks need to let experts do their thing. This situation is the best and perfect situation to disclose officers’ presence. Those folks watch too many movies and have no clue on pragmatic policing. Well done in publicizing the presence of police at schools nationwide and within communities when schools are out.

The first time I am proud of the police and their publicizing this policing tactic. Not all things are undercover. No using our children as bait.

  10. OMG..Antiguans stooooop nonsense….If they don’t post this, you gonna be barking every single day that authorities are doing nothing. Is so annoying see people complaining about everything..You do..complain..you don’t do..complain. Grow up

  11. CHRIS, you do not sound very sensible at all, you do not let the enemy know all your plans, that’s common sense, but as some people say sense is not very common

  12. @ them want a hard lash. I was saying the same thing. Why you are going to announce your strategies to the public in light of you try to catch the perpetrator/ perpetrators. Is this sensible, come on Officers of the law. You all supposed to be smarter that that man. Who are you working for ? Really,?really ? Something got to be wrong with Aru heads. Because, I don’t think you all are really thinking with common sense. What is this letter doing in the public? We need results. Not you all pussy footing around the place and a form fool a aru self. God help Antigua and Barbuda.

  13. @Arnaldo. We need results, not another letter of what they are doing. This needs action. Do what you have to do. My grandmother does say. Shut mouth no ketch fly. Shut up and do your work you are paid to do. The need to use critical thinking strategies. This letter is sure not thinking critically. Oh my man. What happened to the police force that I know. Radical officers taking care of the publics interest. Larwd man. Come on, action , action, action. When the public see that the police force means business. Then we will shut up. But for right now, they need to step up them game. We don’t hate them, we appreciate them for doing the job they signed of for. Let’s see them do it man. We love them, we need them to step up them game and show the demons that they mean business man. The public is uneasy because of the resent fatal incident. Come on man this is nonsense.

  14. If doing undercover why say it just make them act you need police on each school bus better idea make sure they see the child go home safely

  15. Ok ok now seriously.. putting plain clothes out side the school to do what exactly walk up and down watch them leave the school gate then they are left to creditors on their way home broadcasting it so the creditors know don’t try picking them up at the school wait till they reach down the road… make it make sense PLEASE… this administration Dunb as f.$##%%. They just do things to say they doing ing something even if it done make sense.. ask the people what help they need to protect their children give them some autonomy.. either that or every work place need to allow their workers time to go to school to pick up their children..

  16. Well how smart can we be, if you have deployed undercover operatives explain why John public needs to know. The perpetrators will obviously lie low….., dumb dumber dumbest

  17. I honestly think that the people of A&B can run the country better than the present administration.. it’s awful how they think the people are not important until they make noise…

Imagin women of the community were the ones that found the car, where was the police looking 🤔
    Where they looking🤔

  18. This is the problem with Antigua they put every God dam thing in the news like why do you think the public and the bad guys need to hear this? Now you’ve given these criminals the opportunity to go and come up with more sinister ways of abducting the kids. This the exact reason crime can’t be solved in this country because y’all let people know your next step like y’all looking glory or fame or some form or applause…chppzz
