The Cabinet determined that vending across the city of St. John’s continues to give the city a look of untidiness.
Therefore, stricter rules governing vending in St. John’s will be articulated in the coming weeks in order to reduce the unkempt look of the city. Sites from which vendors at the T.N. Kirnon Primary School and others on Old Parham Road have planted booths make for an unsightly jumble.
The Cabinet will end the practice of erecting booths along public spaces.

This has been a long time coming and I do commend the government for doing what is necessary. It will affect the vendors in an adverse manner, however as many of them rely on the booths for their daily living and may not have transportation to pack and unpack daily. We need to stop allowing illegal or poor practices to fester for decades which allow people to get used to them and become resistant to change when the time comes. This could have been avoided if only proper planning was employed.
MOVE ALL A DEM OFF MARKET STREET AND AROUND TOWN ! GET DEM OFF OUR ROADS ITS SO UNSIGHTLY AND THEY HAVE NO MANNERS!!
Yes please let them use the public market. All those vendors along the VC Bird Bust area near west bus station
……In this writer’s opinion, this is just another knee jerk reaction without any long term sustainable physical planning. For instance, what is the PLAN for Market Street……which is currently an eyesore…..in terms of aesthetic, pedestrian vs vehicular traffic and vending?

Now, to you @ Wash N Basin, and others #who’re finally REALIZING, the PPP – Piss Poor Planning, of the PARLIAMENT over the last three(3) decades have PAUPERISED some sections of our beautiful and historic Nation, to make others sections THE CREME DE LA CREME, of the Island Life, as in chic, fancy and popular! #FIFTY_SHADES_OF_PINK!
Anyway, the CLEAN UP with long term positive solutions to include such things, as maintenance and management MUST also, in the POLICIES coming out of the Parliament includes regulations to manage NOISE in public, the open WHOREHOUSE, BARS, DRUG DENS, GAMBLING PARLOURS as well.
