The Cabinet held a discussion on the shortage of cement that has slowed construction because of the insufficiency in the supply; this shortage is a result of a shallow channel that can accommodate only a small vessel coming from Trinidad laden with the cement.
The channel to the silo in Crabbes is being dredged and hard rock is being removed daily to enable bigger vessels to bring more cement each time it discharges its load in Antigua.

That cement shortage has been slowing down construction all over the island.
Cement prices have gone up too—will this help bring them back down?
Any update on how the dredging ties into improving port access for materials?
How did we even end up with a shortage in the first place? Poor planning?
Hmmmm…. Can someone from Cabinet actually explain what caused the shortage?
The Cement boat cant navigate in the shallow water that is at crabs and needs deeper water to deliver more cement to the island. The increased demand has put pressure on the supply side and therefore we have a shortage. Antigua is on fire with building currently.
