St. John’s, Antigua & Barbuda – Antiguan and Barbudan features writer, publisher, and media innovator Petra Williams has been honoured with the Excellent Work Award at the third China–Latin America and Caribbean (China–LAC): Close Friendships Obliterates the Distance Short Video Contest. Selected from hundreds of entries, Williams emerged as one of twelve Caribbean finalists and is currently on a media influencers’ tour in China.

The contest celebrates cultural diplomacy, people-to-people exchange, and digital storytelling. Williams’ recognition signals Antigua & Barbuda’s growing role in international cultural diplomacy. “We are traditionally connected to the North, but the scope for South– South cooperation is boundless… I am particularly mindful of the prospects for our creative industries,” she said.

Her achievement highlights a new Caribbean voice: one that is proudly rooted at home, yet globally mobile and deeply connected.

China is among the more than 40 countries Williams has visited, and her immersion in its cultural history, traditions, and development under the concept of “socialism with Chinese characteristics” has created a lasting affinity. At home, she is best known for her platform,“Petra the Spectator,” which combines commentary on culture, sports, and nationaldevelopment with global insights.

Williams also produces the Time Capsule series, a digital archive of Antigua & Barbuda’s daily stories. She will shortly release the third edition of The Spectator – Patriots Edition, an annual hard-copy magazine featuring 12 legacy pieces showcasing Antigua and Barbuda.
