On Tuesday 2nd November, 2021, the Honourable E. P. Chet Greene M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade, welcomed the first accredited Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Antigua and Barbuda, His Excellency Marko Djurić, during his Official Visit for his Presentation of Credentials.
Ambassador Djurić conveyed greetings from the President of the Republic of Serbia and expressed his honour to be appointed as the first Ambassador of Serbia shortly after Antigua and Barbuda’s milestone celebration of its 40th Anniversary of Independence.
Ambassador Djurić also announced the intention of the Government of Serbia to allocate a number of scholarships to the people of Antigua and Barbuda in the near future, and further discussed other areas of interest that will be mutually beneficial to both countries.
Minister Greene graciously thanked the Government of Serbia for the scholarships offered stating that “they will significantly contribute to increasing our nation’s human capital”.
He also discussed cooperation in areas of tourism, climate change, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
Minister Greene noted that there are significant areas of possibilities between both states and with Ambassador Djurić’s appointment, the bilateral relationship between both countries will be strengthened.
During his visit, Ambassador Djurić presented Credentials to H. E. Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda and met with the Honourable Steadroy Benjamin M.P., Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Legal Affairs, Public Safety and Labour.
Antigua and Barbuda and the Republic of Serbia established diplomatic relations on 28th September, 2018.
