(pax news) — The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) Canada office is growing its sales team in order to provide stronger support to Canadian travel advisors across the country.

As announced in its March 2023 newsletter, the tourism authority is welcoming new business development managers, Kyle Christian and Gavin Jimenez, to the team.

Mr. Christian, while new to the BDM world, formerly worked with the ABTA’s Canada office as a sales and marketing officer.

Prior to that, he worked in the hospitality industry in Antigua and Barbuda, serving as public relations manager for Sandals Resorts.

He has a decade’s worth of experience in media and communications in the hospitality, consumer packaged goods and finance industries.

Mr. Jimenez is a highly-motivated travel marketer with experience in business development for Canadian and international tourism.

With education in marketing and travel and tourism, he began his career in hospitality, tour operators, luxury hotels and continues now as part of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority team.

Meanwhile, Shamoi Richards joined the ABTA Canada BDM team just last year.

Mr. Richards has more than eight years of experience in the tourism industry and has worked with the ABTA head office since 2018 as a cruise tourism marketing officer.

He joined the Canada office as a BDM in 2022 and his tourism focus areas are sailing, yachting, and airlift.

He has a wealth of knowledge of Antigua and Barbuda tourism.

Long-time team member Matara Richards remains on the team as a marketing administrative officer.

Matara is an administrative professional who is extremely passionate about her beautiful home Antigua and Barbuda.

She provides overall support for the daily operations of the team, and also leads the romance and heritage and culture focus areas.

“The Canadian market and our retail partners continue to be important to the success and growth of tourism to Antigua and Barbuda,” Tameka Wharton, director of tourism (ag.) at the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Canada region, told PAX. “To that end, we are delighted to add additional BDMs to support our travel agency community in Canada.”

  1. Great to see how this government is giving our young professionals the chance to make their mark for their country. I wish them well in the new endeavors. May they be successful and bring lots if business to our country.

  2. As good as this may sound coming out if Canada 🇨🇦, isn’t this some kind of OXYMORON (Canadians can travel to Antigua unrestricted, but we can’t do likewise), and especially as President Trudeau has put in place visa restrictions on travelling Antiguans to their country?! How?

Am I missing something here folks?

    • Yes, you are missing your brain. I saw it on Market Street. A vendor is selling it to the highest bidder.

      • So what you are saying @ From The Sideline, you enjoy Antiguans being treated as “second-class citizens” by the Canadian government and they can travel to Antigua & Barbuda without restrictions.

You’re a SUBSERVIENT clown 🤡 that enjoys SERFDOM … grow a backbone boss, that’s if you have one!

Don’t get it twisted, Gray was not condoning or promoting the ignorance of his contemporaries, betters, peers or “deplorables” but is reflecting with fond memories on a time when everyone in their youth was allowed to be ignorant!

Seems like some ‘Nattering Nabobs of Negativism” and “xenophobia” haven’t got past youthful exuberance!

“isn’t this some kind of OXYMORON (Americans can travel to Antigua unrestricted, but we can’t do likewise)?”

Why, in this the International Decade for People of African Descent 2015- 2024, do some people of African descent, with no misgivings and with great pride, revel in the role of agent provocateurs! Is this a lucrative role! Is this a function as small island racketeer!

“Come, then, comrades; it would be as well to decide at once to change our ways. We must shake off the heavy darkness in which we were plunged, and leave it behind. The new day which is already at hand must find us firm, prudent and resolute. We must leave our dreams and abandon our old beliefs and friendships of the time before life began. Why is GoAB serving SAM’s Interests in the NATO-Ukraine-RUSSIA White Mafia Capital Game! ” When elephants fight the grass (reeds) gets hurt.” – Swahili Proverb! Julius Nyerere, President of Tanzania, used this proverb during the 70’s in a speech at the United Nations in New York to remind People of African Descent that in the Cold War between the (then) two great super powers — the United States and Russia — it was the poor Third World countries such as those in Africa who suffered and were victimized. Lee Kuan Yew, first Prime Minister of Singapore, was even more engaging in his pronouncement: “When Elephants Make Love, The Grass Gets Trampled!” In The Aramaic Text it says: “They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of others;”

This is for those enquiring minds to be reminded of how Antigua and Barbuda served SAM’s and NATO interests and developed The Curse of International Corruption:

OH Gad! as Poet Laureate Joanne Hillhouse would say!

        • Many citizens from other countries can travel to Antigua and Barbuda without any restrictions, because we need to their tourists’ dollars. They do not need ours. Take for example the USA. They do not even need a passport to come to Antigua. They can just show their drivers’ license and they are good to go. And that has been so forever. But you say nothing about that. And not so long ago we needed a Schengen Visa to travel to Europe while European can freely travel here on vacation. I really thought you were more learned and knew all these things. But then again you like to just attack everything the Labour Party, or Gaston Browne does. And now this makes you look stupid.

    • Reality check @Brixtonian, we need their money in our economy more than they need ours. Life is unfair, sorry to break it to you

  3. best wishes to all in the Canada office
