The Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) is proud to announce that Curtain Bluff has been awarded the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Environmental Sustainability Award at the 2025 Caribbean Hospitality Industry Exchange Forum (CHIEF) in Barbados. The award recognizes the resort’s long-standing commitment to environmental protection, community empowerment, and operational excellence in sustainable tourism.

In addition to this achievement, Curtain Bluff recently became the first Antiguan property to earn Green Globe Platinum Certification, marking a decade of continuous improvement in environmental and social sustainability.

Curtain Bluff’s victory celebrated its sustainable tourism model which is anchored in a deeply integrated approach that blends environmental conservation, resource efficiency, and community engagement. For over 63 years, the resort has implemented innovative systems for water management, energy efficiency, and waste reduction, while actively supporting the surrounding Old Road community through education, youth programs, and long-term development initiatives. This harmony between people, place, and operations has distinguished the resort as a leader in Caribbean sustainability and earned it international recognition.

Curtain Bluff also places strong emphasis on renewable practices that help protect Antigua’s fragile ecosystems. From advanced desalination and wastewater treatment technology to natural cooling design features, the resort ensures that its environmental footprint remains minimal. It complements these efforts with a guest-centered sustainability experience that promotes awareness, encourages responsible behavior, and fosters authentic connections with the island’s culture and landscape.

The resort’s commitment extends beyond the environment to the heart of the Old Road Village, where generations of families have grown alongside the resort. Through scholarships, school adoption programs, youth sports, and the Old Road Fund, Curtain Bluff continues to uplift the community that has supported its growth for more than six decades.

In addition to its core sustainability initiatives, Curtain Bluff has implemented advanced water systems, including reverse osmosis desalination and greywater reuse, eliminated single-use PET bottles in favor of refillable glass bottles, and partnered with local farmers and fisherfolk to provide fresh, sustainable dining. These are just some of the many initiatives that demonstrate the resort’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, community engagement, and sustainable tourism.

Craig Marshall, Chairman, Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) stated that The ABHTA is incredibly proud of the remarkable work done by Curtain Bluff. Their commitment to environmental protection, community development, and responsible tourism stands as an inspiring example for all accommodation providers in Antigua and Barbuda. We celebrate their achievement and look forward to seeing their continued leadership as more properties on the island advance their own sustainability journeys.

Anique Goodwin, Green Globe administrator for Curtain Bluff in expressing her gratitude for the recognition noted that “We are incredibly proud and honoured to be recognized for our continued efforts in sustainability. We want to encourage other businesses and individuals to embrace sustainable practices every day to protect our livelihood which is our unique island. Every small effort brings us closer to preserving our world for future generations.”

For more than 63 years, Curtain Bluff has embodied passion, care, and stewardship — protecting the land, honouring the sea, and uplifting the community. The resort is honoured to have its 63 years of excellence recognized with this prestigious regional award, reaffirming its commitment to setting the benchmark for sustainable tourism in Antigua & Barbuda and across the Caribbean.
