Antigua Barbuda Festivals Commission Endorses Junior Calypso + Soca Stars Initiative

The Antigua Barbuda Festivals Commission (ABFC) proudly endorses the Junior Calypso + Soca Stars Initiative, led by Peetron Thomas and Tyreke “Vicious” Lewis. This exciting program is dedicated to nurturing and developing young talent in Calypso and Soca, ensuring these critical cultural art forms continue to thrive for generations to come.

The Junior Calypso + Soca Stars Initiative seeks to discover and mentor young singers from primary and secondary schools across Antigua and Barbuda. Through school visits, private coaching, mentorship, and community performances, the program aims to equip young hopefuls with the skills and confidence needed to showcase their talents on stage.

This initiative is more than just preparing them for the Antigua Carnival stage. It’s about empowering young voices, instilling confidence, and fostering a deep love for our cultural artform,” said Peetron Thomas, a passionate calypsonian, soca artiste, youth mentor, and music educator. “Our goal is to find the next generation of Calypso and Soca stars and guide them on their journey, from the classroom to the stage.”

Co-lead Tyreke “Vicious” Lewis, an internationally recognized Soca artist and producer, emphasized the program’s impact: “Music has the power to shape lives, build character, and connect us to our roots. Through this initiative, we’re giving young artists the opportunity to develop their craft, learn from seasoned professionals, and gain valuable insight.”

Fully endorsed by the ABFC and Chairperson Ambassador Elizabeth Makhoul has this to say: “A Commitment to the future of the artform, Peetron and Tyreke’s passion for the art form and their dedication to its development are truly commendable. Their work with young artists is essential in building a legacy for Calypso and Soca.

The Antigua Barbuda Festivals Commission is proud to support this initiative and is pleased to announce that Peetron Thomas has been officially appointed to Junior Calypso Monarch while Tyreke “Vicious” Lewis, appointed to Junior Party Monarch subcommittees. We are confident that both Peetron and Tyreke will bring invaluable contributions to the overall growth and sustainability of the art form while laying that strong foundation for youth development.”
