CABINET NOTES: Since teachers in the public schools downed tools because of the non-payment of certain outstanding allowances—to a small number of the educators—the Cabinet held a discussion with the Accountant General, by telephone; and, with the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, in person.
It appears that arrears date back to the Covid-19 pandemic when many payments were put on hold.
Although all vouchers were submitted to the Treasury in November 2024, the Free Balance system utilized by the Treasury would pose a challenge, rejecting several vouchers; it required new vouchers to be re-issued.
The Treasury reported that all vouchers have now been processed and cheques submitted on Tuesday and today, Wednesday, to meet all payments due.
The Permanent Secretary acknowledged that additional checks were received today but their names required double-checking which was not complete when she left for the Cabinet meeting.
The Ministry has informed the various Principals of each of the schools that checks are now available for the teachers.
The Cabinet expressed the view that return of the teachers to teaching their charges would re-commence immediately.
The Cabinet repeated its exhortation to both teachers and their Union to take into account that the students bear no responsibility for the disagreement that exists, and to remind that the education of the future generation is always to be treated as a highly valued objective.

Why do people slways have to go to the extreme to get what they deserve, this administration is just shitty period
The teachers are not the problem why they are not in the classrooms.
The ministry knows which school every teacher is assigned to.
Cheques are ready?
Then take them to the schools as soon as possible and have the teachers return to the classrooms.
What good is it serving the children keeping the cheques at the ministry and finding time to publish the names of teachers in the news paper.
If those cheques were not there on Wednesday to be distributed to the teachers how are they there on Thursday morning and names published in the paper.
Lead by an unscrupulous leader everything this government does follows the same pattern.
Leadership matters.
It is time.to retire this government.
Pringleeeeeeee, step aside!!!!!!
When teachers AND nurses begin to be held in higher esteem and treated like gods instead of commoners, ONLY THEN will the bullshit end. The education failures are not to be placed on the teachers BUT the failure of the MoE, government and the greedy PM who want all and will get none tarl.
That’s why the government should make it their priority to pay important workers like the teachers and nurses what is owed to them.
Have you noticed that government ministers never miss a payday or back pay? Pay the people they monies that you owe them they have to eat too wicked set a people
If nurses had unity like teachers we would be getting outstanding monies. But our nursing association keep on playing politics. That’s why we not staying here. Teachers rock
