Antigua & Barbuda has climbed 17 places on the United Nations Human Development Index.
The twin-island nation now stands at 54 among 193 countries, up from its previous ranking of 71.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has hailed this achievement as being particularly notable in light of the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic which saw the country losing 18 percent of GDP.
He said the government has been growing the economy by an average of about eight per cent per annum since the onset of the pandemic.
In the Caribbean region, Antigua & Barbuda now ranks second, after St Kitts & Nevis.
Jamaica ranks 115th out of 193 countries on the 2023 Human Development Index.

“We need the CBI money to work for us because we don’t see enough development in Antigua. Dominica, on the other hand, is making progress by building free homes for its citizens, paving roads, offering free healthcare for children and the elderly, providing food security, and implementing national employment and development programs etc. In Antigua, we only see some people’s children owning properties, but we want to see more progress for the whole community.” We want these properties to be put to good use as training facilities for young people to further develop certain skill sets.
They need to show us the Ranking because i’m still seeing us ranking 71 place.
Sad that anytime you have a positive story about our country the Gaston Browne haters stay away from making any comment. They cannot bring it in themselves to even say something good about their country. They rather see their country down in the gutter.
But as Onion sang. You’ll never here a Jamaican say that things are hard in their country why they run away. They always speak of their country nice. And in their heart it will always be their paradise. Well my land too. Stand up for your country.
