14. I believe many Antiguans and Barbudans do not really know what the Carnival Celebrations are all about. It has been lost over the years because of the glitter and parties and alcohol.
    It’s about our EMANCIPATION. Free from Slavery. The Reparation Association should therefore welcome this new mix that Antigua will be introducing into our Carnival. And give it back the meaning it used to have. The connection with Mother Africa. But it seems as if we only profess to be descendants from Africa, but in fact we do not want to have much to do with Africans. We have seen it the manner in which we have welcomed the Cameroonians and now just by the news that Nigerians are coming to celebrate with us our Carnival you already hear the dissenting voices.     Nigeria does not have a thriving tourists industry for obvious reasons. Nigeria is not considered as an International tourists destination because of its unstable government, which has a tendency for coups, kidnapping and fraud.

      Here is a cast-iron bet you cannot lose. Neither tenman nor From The Sideline will ever reply to your indictment of the part West Africans played in the slave trade. They are too embarrassed to admit it either through ignorance or willful neglect. There are two reasons why I have never or ever been a supporter of reparations.
      1. Compensation was cruelly and unjustly not paid to the most deserving people of all, namely the slaves who endured the most horrendous treatment throughout their lives of misery.
      Why then should their descendants over four hundred years later, who never even carried a single scar from a slavemaster’s whip seek to gain financially from those who suffered many centuries ago? Carried to its logical conclusion the Israelis today should seek reparation from the Egyptian government since their forebears were slaves in Egypt in Biblical times.
      2. If some seek reparation from present day European governments for slavery then they should also seek compensation from the most despicable players of all, the Africans who participated in the capture and bondage of their own people to facilitate the slave trade but you will not hear a whimper from the ‘brothers and sisters’ brigade about this shameful episode. They are ostriches with their heads stuck firmly in the sand. Confounded hypocrites, yo say the least.
