Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Leads by Example: Donates Monthly Salary to Support 4th International SIDS Conference

11

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has personally committed his monthly salary to support Antigua and Barbuda’s hosting of the 4th International SIDS Conference in May 2024. His announcement came during a partnership roundtable aimed at mobilizing resources for the event, bringing together over a hundred development actors, including government ministries, private sector entities, and international financing institutions.

The Prime Minister’s $5,000 pledge is intended to inspire additional donations for the crucial conference. The 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) is set to take place in Antigua and Barbuda, gathering around 5,000 participants to address sustainable development priorities.

The conference marks the conclusion of the SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA Pathway, 2014-2024) and launches a new 10-year vision (2024-2034 agenda). The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, as the host, aims to coordinate SIDS consultations for the Outcome Document, guiding the next decade’s sustainable development.

The new agenda seeks to provide technical support by reviewing SAMOA Pathway achievements, conducting a gap analysis, and incorporating lessons learned from a SIDS perspective. It also includes establishing frameworks for SDG progress, creating sounding boards for development plans, and addressing issues like the SIDS debt crisis.

Hosting such a significant conference requires substantial commitment from all stakeholders. Antigua and Barbuda’s government is actively seeking financial contributions from development partners to ensure the successful execution of the conference, covering logistics, transportation, catering, security, ICT, and accommodation.

  1. 2. Huh? Non of my damn business, but did I read that correctly? Are you trying to tell us that the PM only brings home 5k a month? Someone ain’t right about that number.

Well at least he’s taking home a salary, but 5k will lead someone to teef to rartid (wink wink) 😂. Just saying.

  3. Such crap. Is he donating his salary or is he investing in SUVs and equipment so that he can multiply his money ten fold?

  4. The management of the economy is the responsibility of the PM, if you commit the country to a conference, then it was your responsibility to ensure that the resources are there to ensure this venture is successful.

This foolishness about donating salary is not impressive and should not move anyone. On the contrary it really only shows your lack of planning and your mismanagement of the states resources to commit the nation to a conference without the means to pay for it.

That is not nobility Mr PM, that is naked stupidity.

The second thing is this you do not make $5000 a month just stop the lying please. Your parliamentary salary is $4500 your constituency allowance is $2000 and your portfolio salary as PM and Minister of finance is about $17000 your other allowances food, entertainment, utilities etc.. etc… can rack up another $5000 then you are being paid to live in your own house that is another 10,000 per month.

Just stop telling people you work for $5000 no prime minister ever worked for $5000.

Even more importantly why is it necessary to donate your salary? Having collected over $11billion in state revenue over the past 9/10 years. With a budget of 1.5 billion and record collections at customs and inland revenue.

If the country truely does not have any money why the heck would you commit to an embassy in China to put the nation in millions of dollars in expenses?

So you begging from yourself to run the affairs of government is not noble it is mismanagement at its worse and potential corruption at its best.

    STUPID!!! STUPID!!! STUPID!!!

Is it just me that finds something very very wrong with this picture.

    Hmmmmmmmm….!!!!

      • Absolutely correct @ silly. Here’s another ABLP acolyte and Gastonite who cannot explain why the PM “leads by example”.

Again a soundbite that means zilch to the educated and critical thinkers of this great country.

COME ON @ FERN, TRY AND REDEEM YOURSELF … WE COULD DO WITH A GOOD BELLY LAUGH 😂

  5. I AM NOT ALL IMPRESSED WHEN A MULTI-MILLIONEER DONATES JUST ONE MONTH SALARY….NOT IN AH DIS ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE PLACE YAH, NO SAR.
