The small community of Jonas Road, All Saints, came alive with celebration as residents and dignitaries gathered to honor Hermena Winifred Goodwin, the nation’s oldest centenarian, who has reached the extraordinary milestone of 104 years.

The event, organized by the Community Development and Citizens Engagement Division under the Ministry of Social Transformation, paid tribute to Goodwin’s remarkable life, accomplishments, and contributions to Antigua and Barbuda.

Born on the historic Betty’s Hope Estate on December 28, 1920, Goodwin’s life reflects resilience, faith, and hard work. Although official records list her birth date as January 10, 1921, due to delayed registration practices, she proudly celebrates her December birthday. From walking miles to learn sewing in St. John’s to becoming a revered seamstress creating wedding gowns and Carnival Queen costumes, Goodwin has left an indelible mark on her community.

In a touching gesture, Goodwin turned her celebration into an opportunity to give back. She donated books, bicycles, and other gifts to students at J.T. Ambrose Primary School in All Saints Village, a school she once influenced during her earlier years.
