Antigua and Barbuda’s Economy Will Grow By 5.8 per cent in 2024, says IMF

Antigua and Barbuda’s economy continues to recover.

Real GDP growth is estimated at 4.2 percent in 2023, returning the country to pre-pandemic real output levels on the back of strong construction activity and continued growth in tourist arrivals.

In 2024, growth is projected to be temporarily higher.

Growth in 2024 is expected to accelerate to 5.8 percent, boosted by Antigua’s hosting of the UN’s Small Island Developing States Conference and co-hosting of the T20 Cricket World Cup.

Inflation rose to 6.0 percent in April 2024, from 3.3 percent at end-2023.

  1. Public debt will be a serious threat because of borrowing at high interest rates . We were told that by the PM,” he is going to borrow us out of debt “. I am not surprised.

  2. What do the words “estimated” and “projected” really mean from the likes of the IMF and Gaston ‘guesswork’ Browne?

The aims are to GUESS – as per usual – correctly or incorrectly the effects of the Antiguan economic/or macroeconomic policy; and remember, when it doesn’t come to fruition, there’s absolute silence from this government and supporters like tenman and their ilk.

Estimations and projections aren’t FACTS – why not deal with the here and now!

Difficult for you isn’t it Gassssston …

  3. “LEWIS: Gaston Browne’s Claimed Shortage of Skilled Construction Workers is an Admission of Failure
Despite claims of a construction boom and an economic boom, our people still suffered through record unemployment and underemployment.”

I guess Lewis didn’t read what the IMF had to say about our country’s economy. But who cares what Lewis says.
Even Brixtonian cannot get it over his heart to say something nice about Antigua if it congratulates Gaston Browne. It doesn’t matter whether it is IMF, World Bank, CDB, ECCB or ECLAC.
    These are just Gaston haters.
