CABINET NOTES: The Antigua and Barbuda Cabinet also examined the possibility of restructuring payments to the Cuban Medical Brigade since the United States is claiming that the current system amounts to “Human Trafficking.”
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda strongly denies that it is engaged in any such unlawful activity; 66 other countries, utilizing the Cuban Medical Brigade to supplement their national, medical, healthcare services, also deny their engagement in any unlawful activity.
Geo-politics is evidently having an impact on policy formulation within the region and globally, the Cabinet concluded.

My take on that is all caribbean leaders should take a stand like how Barbados prime minister did. All they have to do is to fine tune the program of having Cubans health care professionals in their respective countries. One way to do that is to pay the Doctors and nurses their full salaries direct to them. Then they can go on to pay Cuban for allowing its citizens to work overseas and cut off that stypen. Pay them their full salaries direct like how you pay your your nurses and Doctors. In doing it this way, the question of human Trafficking will be illiminated from their mouth.
Isn’t only about payment is also about Cuba government doesn’t allow those Doctors travel with their family while they are working overseas..And Cuba obligated those Doctors to give more than half of their earnings..They seize their passport while stay in a country, they can’t travel freely..If any Doctors are working and want to do a quick travel in a weekend to other islands, they are banned to do such move. So don’t take this situation lightly, those Doctors are part of a modern slavery scheme. Is not a fault of Caribbean leaders..Is Cuba government the one that squeeze those professionals.
@Arnaldo, do you really think American care about how Cuba treat it’s doctors? It is not about any human trafficking, it is all about Cuba joining BRICS.
The Caribbean leaders need to find UNITY in the position, hopefully taking the stand like Trinidad, St. Vincent and Barbados – let him keep their VISAs if that is the case.
Just like how Trump says America first, we need to be saying Caricom first or even the whole Caribbean first. Hopefully soon, we can say African and African descendants first.
