Two young leaders from the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) Youth Arm joined trade unionists from across the Americas in Brazil last week for the UNI Americas Youth Organizing Forum.
Youth Arm President Blair Rose and Vice President Charles Browne attended the two-day event from 24–25 September, which included training sessions, committee meetings, and discussions on the future of trade unionism.
Rose, also Vice President of the UNI Americas Youth Committee, said the forum offered a chance to share strategies on recruiting workers and addressing challenges such as politics, economics, and new technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Global issues like climate change and “just transition” for workers were also discussed.
“The forum gave us skills to strengthen membership and advocacy at home,” Rose said, adding that it highlighted the value of Antigua and Barbuda’s democratic space, where union rights are freely exercised.
The event ended with a pledge from young leaders across the region to continue networking and building resilient unions in a changing world of work.
