Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union Partners with Yahweh Shammah Preschool and  Daycare to Provide Discounted Childcare for Members

St. John’s, Antigua – 7 July 2025 – The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) is proud  to announce a new partnership with Yahweh Shammah Preschool and Daycare which brings  discounted rates on childcare services to union members. This initiative marks the Union’s first  formal step toward improving access to affordable, quality childcare for working families,  especially single mothers.

The partnership also reflects ABWU’s commitment to addressing one of the most pressing  challenges faced by working parents: securing flexible childcare services to meet dynamic work  schedules.

Chester Hughes, ABWU Deputy General Secretary stated, “This arrangement will bring peace of  mind to many parents, particularly those working in the hotel industry whose employment  agreements include night shifts.”

Flavere Davis, the school’s proprietor stated, “We understand the needs of working families;  that is why we have designed a facility where children can receive quality care and attention  during and beyond the typical working hours.”

Across the world, labour stakeholders and women’s advocates have consistently identified the lack  of reliable and affordable childcare as a major barrier preventing many mothers from entering the  labour market. This partnership directly addresses that issue by supporting mothers in their efforts  to participate fully in the workforce.

Founded in 2019, Yahweh Shammah Preschool and Daycare is dedicated to providing a safe,  nurturing environment with a holistic approach to early childhood education. In addition to a strong  academic foundation, the facility, located in Golden Grove, offers an expanded curriculum  designed to fuel creativity and imagination during the learning process.

  1. This is a wonderful step to make to actually reduce to cost of living. I would like to see this scaled up when it’s financially possible to do so whether it’s including more centers or including non union workers
