Antiguan and Barbudan students have achieved a significant breakthrough in this year’s CSEC examinations, with a pass rate surpassing expectations.
Preliminary data reveals that 75.4% of students secured passing grades, marking a notable increase from the previous year’s 72.3%.
Applauding the accomplishment, local CXC Registrar Myrick Smith noted potential for further growth, acknowledging that some grades were yet to be resolved.
While 606 students achieved success in five or more subjects, the country excelled in 23 out of 33 subjects compared to regional averages.
Challenges in areas like Mathematics prompt a focus on further improvement.
Anticipated adjustments may elevate the already commendable results.

Brix and other UPP Minions, can’t you guys see that under this ABLP administration everyone and everything is going good. We even have women citizens going to SPACE and others are rowing across the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. And the economy is breaking record after record. Fasting growing economy in the region. Largest amount of savings in our banks in the ECCB region. And we are the largest EC economy. $5billion. Give a round of applause to our visionary leader the honorable Dr. Gaston Alphonso Browne. You can’t keep a good man down.
While we are patting ourselves on the back, how many thrashy subjects are included, and how many low level passes are also included in the data?
Have we noticed that many students are running away from doing the challenging subjects and opting for the ones where everybody passes?
And talking about cheating, have we noticed that there is plenty cheating with the SBAs and the subjects that involve local testing, like PE and language orals?
I wish I could rejoice in this “notable increase”. I sigh more than most when they come into my office for a job.
