The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has emphasized its policy aimed at empowering citizens who have been residing on Crown lands for an extended period.

Under this initiative, individuals who have occupiedCrown lands for more than ten (10) years will be offered the opportunity to purchase up to one-quarter (¼) acre of land at a concessional rate of EC$1.00 per square foot.

Cabinet noted that this policy forms part of the Government’s broader efforts to promotehomeownership, security of tenure, and economic empowerment among citizens. By providing long-term occupants with the ability to formalize ownership of the lands they have developed and maintained, the Government aims to improve living conditions and create greater opportunities for wealth creation.

The policy also seeks to regularize informal settlements in a structured manner, ensuring that residents can gain legal title while enabling the State to implement proper planning, infrastructure development, and community enhancement initiatives.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Cabinet emphasized that the initiative reflects the administration’s continued commitment to uplifting citizens and expanding access to land ownership, particularly for those who have demonstrated long-standing ties to the lands they occupy.

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda remains committed to policies that advance social equity, economic inclusion, and sustainable national development.

  1. What, and undercut the rest of us hardworking indigenous landowners who may want to sell at current market rates?

Maybe I should have squatted on my own land for 10 years to have acquired such favourable rates.

I’m out of here if ABLP win the next General Election and join my well educated sons in Europe.

I feel sorry for those who don’t have a choice and have to stay here regardless. I now understand why Dr Dave Ray will not come back to live in Antigua on a permanent basis. Good for him 👍🏾

Hmmmm 🤔 you got me seriously thinking doc…

  2. Good message..Squatter any land..It will be the best. Don’t worry, always will be the best. Is amazing . Don’t be a good citizen..Be a crock.

  3. what about those people who occupy John I Martin land in liberta for years and cannot get it to buy.

  4. $1.00 per SQ foot!!! Besides those lands in Barbuda which is a peculiar case, NEVER have I heard lands in Antigua selling for such pepper corn price.

Are Antiguans that low minded & love hand outs that the govt has to sell crown land to squatters at that price?

Some of us has to buy lands at $6.00 per SQ foot and more.

It is grossly unfair !!! Why not allow the playing be at the same level?

  5. @ Watching from the side,
We are told we are a democracy. We are told we abide by the Constitution.
Both are fallacies. Plain and simple this is the buying of votes; but under our concept of democracy it is not considered a violation of the law. It’s practicing smart politics.

The low minded people don’t care about democracy, or what you may feel. They are just looking for what they can get and democracy and fairness are for fools in their world.

  6. Antiguan who are law abiding citizens that dont squat need to purchase land like yesterday. Antiguans need help.
